Autumn Play
A Haiku Series

gracefully they fall fiery blaze to ground below maple sheds her clothes
ground ablaze, they play elegant dives in leaf piles their laughter echoes
mother calls them home they flutter in like fairies ruddy faces beam
maple swoons a sigh night wind releases last leaf she ignites no more

Poet’s Note: Warm summer days always make me long for autumn. I tend to write a lot of autumn poems in the summer — hoping to rush the season along to the cool comfort of my favorite season.
