The Witness for Release | A Reincarnation Series

The Miraculous Breath

Breathing the cleanest air possible allows spirit and emotion to bless our lives. Attention to the breath is the foundation for many meditations. All air, even in darkness, contains photons. When we breathe, we are breathing in oxygen and photons (electromagnetic packets of energy) or light into our lungs. We breathe in pollutants too.

Of course, everyone knows that smoking tobacco and marijuana interfere with the breath and may create lung disease. Smoking stops emotional growth because the air is fouled with toxic particles that interfere with the number of healthy particles (O2) and photons. The smoke from these sources inhibits lung function so that the full range of emotions is blocked and the bond of spirit is altered or blocked. I know this from experience, having been a smoker for eight years. Although vaping is not smoke, the chemicals that bond with the lungs are considered damaging. But not enough study has been done on vaping to gauge damages in the long term.

A Triad of Healing Approaches: Spirit-Body-Earth

Earth-Body: My body arises from Earth. I am a planet Earth Human. As a human Earth-Body, I am a blossom that may develop into a fruit with my spiritual work and with Earth’s spirit. Just as Earth’s body is the Receptive Principle holding a negative charge, my body, as connected to Earth, is receptive, too.

Spirit-Body: My body is a life in 3D for Spirit to dwell. Spirit’s body is the Affirming Principle or self that holds a positive charge. My body, blended with Spirit and Earth, is the third element, or the Neutral Principle, that is a buffer between Spirit and Earth.

My Spirit-Body blends with emotion, which helps form attachments and identity. It allows me to succeed with career and personal relationships. Emotion (love) fuels will, tenderness, drive, sensitivities, and so on. Spirit becomes an ally to work with releasing attachments while maintaining the lines between identity and surrender into the oneness.

My Earth-Body blends with my parasympathetic nervous system (unconscious processes). The blend allows for all of my body’s systems to operate as well as possible under any circumstances.

My Body: Is a neutral urge that holds Spirit-Body and Earth-Body along with its own tenuous awareness of biology, genetic history, karma memory, fluctuating gender (from minuscule to larger), and body memories.

Attachment: Chronic/Habitual Emotions

The glue of all attachments is emotions and repeating patterns of emotions connected to behavior. I believe we all know the chronic emotional patterns we carry with us to a large or small degree. If it is a large degree, it’s likely that you’re aware of the pattern and are working on it.

The most common chronic emotional-behavioral patterns are:

fear-anger fear-anger-depression entitlement possessiveness loathing-self-loathing judgment (of self)-negative (self) criticism

The Seven Deadly Sins or taking them out of a religious context they are addictive attachments: 1. jealousy-envy 2. hubris (excessive pride) 3. greed 4. wrath — rages leading to hatred and violence 5. gluttony — eating too much (again addiction) 6. lust — sexual desire leading to sex addiction 7. sloth — is the archaic reference to depression and apathy

Of course, there are many more.

Changing Habits

Meditation, Inner Work, and the Witness

There are many meditation techniques. Each requires a daily practice if a witness is to develop. Traditional Meditation is a focus of the mind often referred to as mindfulness. Watching the breath, attending to thoughts, and outer distractions as they come and go may be part of the practice. I am a practitioner of Vipassanā or insight meditation. The technique is focusing on the breath.

A more direct approach has been the Gurdjieff Work’s inner exercises interfacing with experience to assist in self-observation on the path towards witnessing.

Self-Observation and The Witness

The Witness sees me objectively and with compassion. The law of three describes:

1. positive/action/affirming

2. neutral

3. negative/receptive/denying.

Invisible neutral urge buffers action and receptive urges. The neutral is being. Technically, being is not an urge because it exists outside space and time. The negative and positive would annihilate one another without the neutral.

Self-observation begins on neutral ground and may develop into a permanent witness. All self-observation is grounded in our bodies, making the body neutral. [Our physical body is analogous to Earth’s body. Earth neutralizes and balances whatever is ground into her.] Our body is a temple for learning with emotions and the mind.

The Witness magic is a way of “seeing” related to “Being States”. If I write about my experiences of “the magic” then it will ruin your discovery of it. Enough said. The Witness state of being dwells outside ego and the laws of cause and effect.

Begin with self-observation if you do not have a Witness:

Releasing and Healing Emotional-Mind Attachments

Love is the first emotion. At birth, love is Unconditional Love. The ego divides love into other positive and negative emotions, ranging from ecstatic love and joy to the darkest of fear and hatred.

Love and unconditional love are the fuel for all healing.

The urge to release attachments begins with the mind. Mind “ruled” by ego is a fickle thing: wild, acting on a whim, fragmented and fractured. My heart and mind long for unity and oneness. Releasing attachments is a way towards freedom and enlightenment. In the beginning, I thought, releasing attachments and becoming enlightened is all bliss.

“Chop wood and carry water.” Let attachments go and enlightenment is revealed, then: “chop wood and carry water.”

Meaning that suffering continues even after we release our attachments to it. Can releasing attachments lessen suffering, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, create relaxation and foster peace? Yes.

Cultivating the Witness through meditation and/or practicing self-observation with ordinary physical tasks at the start are the two best ways to involve Body, Mind, Emotion, and Spirit as a force for balance and wisdom.

When Attachments Become Habits

Habits grow out of an attachment or a constellation of attachments. To release a bad habit of habits and replace it with a good or neutral habit may also mean the end of some attachments.

Habit is the repetition of an action. Habitual actions are held in our neutral bodies but are made by our egos. When we know a habit is “bad”, we come to know that it does harm to our minds, emotions, physical body, and/or our spirit. When the attachment is bonded with a habit, the Witness Self is not strong enough to release the attachment and the associated habit. An outside active force is needed.

The struggle is needed. The battle between like and dislike, for example, creates friction where heat or energy is released. The witness is the recipient of the friction/energy. Together, the witness and the struggle strengthen the will. Self-will and access to Divine Will release habit and the attachments associated with a particular habit. Energy is freed from the constellation of habit and attachment and can be applied for more work or stored for future work.
