Are Your Dreams Trying to Tell You Something?

How can you find out?

Last night, I had a dream in which I was a waiter. I’ve had several of those in the past few months. I remember asking myself a while back when I woke up form a similar dream, “what is it trying to tell me?”

Do you believe that dreams contain messages for us? If so, from whom?

Dream study is a fascinating subject. I studied about dreams and dreaming, and what they mean, about thirty years ago. It opened up many new worlds for me, everything from psychology to mythology, spirituality to mysticism, and hypnosis to numerology.

I had some interest in a few of these subjects, and others were taboo, but I dug in because, as I said, it was fascinating. (can you tell I am Mr. Spock fan?)

Dream interpretation is an art and a science. I dug into both sides. The wonderful lady that I was married to at the time, and I shared our dreams and what they could mean. We still talk about our night visions once in a while, even though we are not together anymore.

People have different ways to look at dreams and different ways to interpret them. Over the years, I have learned how to understand what my nocturnal images are telling me.

To understand my dreams, I always have to express them. Sometimes, I journal about them, and other times I’d bounce it off other people who are interested or knowledgeable in the field.

This morning, when I awakened from my dream, my intuition was adamant about the need to find out what it is trying to tell me. So, while cooking my oatmeal, I started journaling about it.

I had my answer within the first few sentences, but I knew there were deeper issues I need to discover. I kept on writing, and I know there is more. The fact that I am resisting to get deeper into it tells me that I have more inner work to do.

The first sentence in my journal reads,

“I woke up from another dream in which I was a waiter, not waiting tables, but I had the role of a waiter.”

Therein, I had my answer. The PC term for a waiter or a waitress is a server.

My dreams are telling me that my role in life is that of a server, but I am not fulfilling my purpose.

I know as I journal more about my dreams, deeper meanings, or ways for me to fulfill my role will surface.

When you are on the path of Self-Improvement, teachers and lessons show up in many forms. Your SELF will always find a way to get your attention.

Do you ever think about your dreams, or what they mean? Can you recall any that had a meaningful impact on your life? It would be wonderful if you could share it with everyone.
