INSPIRATION | SELF-LOVE

Are You Sure You Are Taking Care of Yourself In The Best Possible Way?

Here are the optimum reasons why you must do so

“To become a good person, you have to do good deeds; but to be the BEST you can ever be to anyone, especially to your loved ones, you have to take care of yourself first and foremost in the best possible way.” — Josh Balerite Acol

Caring for yourself means handling oneself with the adequate amount of love, kindness, and respect as any human being is privileged to have.

When you adopt self-care, you allow yourself to be who you are with recognition, responsiveness, and compassion.

Though imperfect we are as a person, each of us deserves to be treated with the utmost physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological attention that we deserve.

Each day of your life, do yourself a favor of tuning in to your bodily needs and mindful attention.

As the famous writer, Eleanor Brownn says:

“Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”

Have you noticed you are having a hard time taking care of others, especially your adorable ones?

Or, are you currently experiencing one of the following?

  1. deficient sleep

2. exhaustion to the point of feeling bored

3. lazing and daydreaming like wanting you were at a different place

4. wrapping up discussions or gatherings early

5. appearing somewhere else, always showing up late

6. failing or withdrawing schedules or appointments

7. sensing overfatigued

8. absence of gratification amidst ordinary tasks due to low encouragement

9. constantly self-mending

10. finding it so hard to focus on the task at hand

Did you answer “Yes” to all or some of the issues aforesaid?

Then, you must know that those are all telltale signs that you are suffering from distress and burnout!

For your information, distress is caused by negative stressors like the ones aforementioned.

Constant or prolonged exposure to stress results in burnout.

I tell you, this almost happened to me, had I not known to recognize the earlier signs of burnout.

I almost resigned from my daytime job because of feeling helpless, unappreciated, and overwhelmed with my daily tasks.

You see, the work of being a frontliner crept up on me as more and more patients that I have tested got positive results for Covid19.

It is due to my deep faith in God, I have survived.

Here are optimum reasons why self-care is a must:

  1. Self-care is not selfishness and something to feel guilty of.

Every one of us needs the same care, love, and compassion we give to others, so don’t feel guilty about it. It is really a necessity.

If you practice nurturing for yourself every day, you are also developing your caring skills making you adept and absorbed to be empathetic to your loved ones and others who need you.

2. It makes you more resilient to challenging things that come your way.

Undoubtedly, when you experience self-care, you also perceive a sense of protection.

This sense of security makes you more efficient and vigorous in facing daunting times.

3. You can best serve others by recharging yourself constantly

You cannot give your best self to others if you feel drained and burnt out. How can you give your finest self when you feel empty and exhausted?

How could you love and nurture others when you can’t love your own self? It’s as simple as that, dear One.

4. It improves your physical health

If you are well-rested, and properly nourished, you are like a gadget that is fully replenished.

Certainly, you become the greatest version of yourself, too. Do you get it?

5. It can boost your emotional health

When you determine how to express your emotions, you soon develop your control over how it affects you emotionally.

You discover positive ways to avoid negativity like stress caused by anger, resentment, and other negative emotions.

In other words, you uncover to smile naturally amidst difficulty. Research suggests being happy prevents illness specifically heart disease.

6. It helps you become more productive

Reading a book, listening to audio apps, learning something new, being creative through writing, or just being mindful makes your mind sharp.

7. It boosts your immune system

Getting enough sleep every day for at least 7–9 hours rejuvenates our body in building a healthy immune system.

If you think you are deprived of sleep sometimes, never hesitate to catch a nap for even just 10–20 minutes each day.

This provides adequate memory enhancement, creativity and lowers the risk of high blood pressure and obesity.

8. It prevents mental illness

Make a daily break away from everything — digital gadgets, social media, from your work or anyone, setting boundaries and finding your special “me time”.

For a few minutes only of meditation, yoga, listening to music, journaling, a walk outside or physical exercise can aid you in finding out what makes you happy.

Moreover reaching out to others like friends, family members, and a licensed mental health professional, just to talk things out, is spending quality time for your own nourishment.

To wrap things up, ask yourself these if you are in doubt:

Does this improve my self-worth?

Does it bring self-productivity?

Does it improve my health?

Does it make me joyful while searching for my own happiness?

If you answered “No” to any of the queries ahead, you are not delivering the proper self-care your body needs.

After all, it is only you and you alone, who can ascertain when, where, and how to rightfully give care to yourself in the best possible way.
