Are You Mindful of Your Mind?
Your thoughts are more powerful than you think

Many of my articles here have been about shifting our minds and looking at things from another view. I feel 2020 has given many of us a NEW vision on our lives — if we choose to look.
I believe that mindset has everything to do with how we run our lives. It is through our mind that we have the power to create what we desire — or not.
It influences all aspects of our lives from finances, relationships, along with our health. We have more control over our lives that we have been led to believe.
One of my favorite quotes is from Henry Ford:
Whether you think you can or you can’t — you’re right.
We always look to prove ourselves right and our beliefs determine the quality of our lives.
If you think something is going to be a struggle — it will. If you think things will fall into place — they will. The mindsets the tone for our actions.
One of the ways that science has proven this is with the placebo effect. How a sugar pill can be of benefit when it was actually a non-active treatment. Those that believed it would work, saw that it actually did.
Bruce Lipton, PhD also talks about the nocebo effect. How negative thoughts affect our lives — including our health. Stress causes dis-ease in our minds. If it’s not addressed there, it leads to conditions and disease in our bodies.
Our mindset is our most powerful tool — it helps us move forward or keeps us stuck. Many of us focus on what we eat and how we move, but how many of us focus on what we think?
Studies have shown that positive thinking helps our healthspan. And that doesn’t mean the Pollyanna syndrome of everything is wonderful when it’s not. We still need to feel our feelings — but not get stuck there.
On this note, I want to briefly share a story I heard from Anita Moorjani who authored the book, Dying To Be Me. Anita shared how she had a near-death experience as she whittled away with cancer.
What Anita realized as she crossed over was how she lived her life in fear — and upon returning, the importance of coming from a place of love.
Anita shared how she ate organic and healthy, drank filtered water, used organic products, did all of this because she feared cancer. Her whole healthy lifestyle all stemmed from this fear — and she ended up with cancer.
As her strong thoughts of cancer turned into strong feelings of fear, it became the energy that attracted cancer to her. And Anita made that connection during her NDE and upon her return came back with love and was cancer-free.
I follow a healthy organic lifestyle because I look at my body as a temple and my intention is to be strong and well for a very long time. To be forever young. I am coming from a place of being wellness— with positivity and love.
Have you ever known someone who does “everything right” and end up dying young? And someone who ate anything and drank alcohol every day, maybe even smoked but enjoyed their life and died old?
After hearing Anita’s story, it’s amazing how our thoughts and feelings can override our actions. Granted there are exceptions to the rule, but to me, this explains a lot.
With this in mind, I’d love for you to spend some time focusing on your thoughts. And as you do, take notice — how would you define your mindset?
Is it a growth mindset or a fixed mindset?
A growth mindset embraces change. It realizes that challenges are opportunities for self-improvement. This group is resilient. They may wobble but they don’t fall down. They are the victors. They are positive.
A fixed mindset wants everything to stay the same, even if there’s dysfunction involved. They are the perfectionists who won’t move forward. The person that is judgmental. They are the victims. They are negative.
Studies show that happier people live longer — and with a better quality of life.
We have the power within us to move from a fixed to a growth mindset! Our brains are not hardwired as once thought and can be rewired.
According to Mark Hyman, M.D. here is 3 Ways to change your mindset. To his 3 Ways, I’ve added my own thoughts. And I also add that there are many others who share this belief. He is one of many messengers.
1. Reframe your struggle. See it as an opportunity instead of a problem. This helps you to not get stuck in the problem, but to find the solution.
2. Focus on the journey and not the destination. While it’s important to set goals (I like intentions) paying attention to the journey helps you not only achieve what you desire — but maintain once there. So losing weight becomes being healthier.
3. Pay attention to your thoughts and words. Words have power. Especially anything that follows “I Am” — as it will find you. You will never gain more energy by repeating how tired you are. Keep what follows I Am to something you want. Also, notice if your thoughts run with a negative or positive vibe.
I live in these ways and it’s been life-changing for me! I used to see the problems (especially the small ones), I focused only on the goals and I had a lot of negative thoughts. As I have followed experts in the field, I realized how I was my own worst enemy…
Do you help yourself — or do you hinder yourself?
I’ve worked to change around my mindset — and if you need to, you can too. It’s not hard — it’s a daily practice. Sometimes it’s a minute process. And over time, it becomes a NEW habit.
It’s being aware of what we think. Mindful of our mind.
I’m starting a NEW course in April to help us take control of our minds — reduce stress and anxiety and tackle overthinking. Don’t we all need a bit (or a lot) of that in these times… More info to follow soon.
