Are You Listening?

To the creep of the breeze beneath the monarch’s wing

The Monarch’s Wings. Photo ©Erika Burkhalter.

Can you hear me?

Are you listening

to the creep of mosses over ancient boulders, or the sweep of the breeze beneath the monarch’s wings,

or the buzz of pollen-laden feet tousling the fuzzy borage sleeping in the wild ridge of flowers bordering the garden?

Or, perhaps, I am more evident in the pulsing moment just as the sun sets into a liquid puddle of melted fire burning across the arctic sea?

Or maybe you can taste me in the errant mist of tumbled falls, a breathy moment when I breathe out and you breathe in, and then we begin again

to know that place where spirit and essence interlace and meld and warp and weave a life that’s evidenced

by one who watches and one who’s watched, and the endless waltz between the two?
