Another Hot Week and a Little Getaway in the Green Wilderness
Week 105 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
Summer isn’t over yet. This week the temperatures barely dropped below 30°C. Only at night, it cooled down. Working in this heat is surely exhausting and our bodies start to feel it. The high season isn’t over yet but is dragging on.
However, we still try to enjoy our stay here in northern Germany as much as we can and went on a little getaway this week as we had 1,5 days off work. Yes, not two full days, just one and a half. But that’s more than our usual one day off per week.
And that is where and when I took the title image. It was taken in a village in the region of “Spreewald”. And yes, I used the features and photography techniques I described in my last article on “how to frame your photographs”.
As usual, my week started on Thursday with a picture of the thermometer. We were jumping all day long but it got really hot. I tell you what, we were suffering. Doing minimal work. Just enough to stay alive.
And that’s how I mean it.
As soon as we finished work, I jumped in the car and drove to the nearest pond to dive into the cooling water. It’s my Monday recreation area but did its wonders on this working day.

The following day clouds appeared and the temperatures dropped. Luckily. I couldn’t have handled another blazing hot day like the previous one. It wasn’t cold. It was just a little cooler. And as the clouds moved in, the scenery changed.
On one of the jumps, the clouds were low under the canopy. It wasn’t a closed cloud cover but just lots of cushion clouds. As soon as I opened my canopy, I was filled with joy.
I switched on my camera again to capture the moment.
The moment of flying above the clouds.
And then diving into the clouds.
And touching this fairytale land.
It felt unreal. The landscape. The clouds. The beauty up here. But it was all real. My life above the clouds.
Saturday was another day at work. From sunrise ‘til sunset, I was jumping out of planes. I don’t have more for you than this selfie, taken right after I left the plane.
Excitement, adrenaline, and adventure for the passenger.
Working and routine actions for me.
Even though Sunday might have been an even longer day at work, we still jumped in the car as soon as the day was finished.
We wanted and needed the getaway even though we might have needed a day of doing absolutely nothing even more.
However, that night we fell asleep in some random parking lot next to a lake. We didn’t see any of it in the evening since we arrived in the dark, but I still took the chance to capture the sky filled with stars just before I fell asleep.
The next morning we drove another hour into the nature paradise of “Spreewald”. A recreational area for all outdoor lovers. Countless channels flowing between historic villages and along tree-lined alleyways were our heaven.
With the inflatable kayak and my paddleboard, we explored the region from the water.
The next morning we walked through town looking for a place to have breakfast in and found this interesting mural on a children’s playground.
Yes, there indeed is beauty and art behind every corner. You just have to see it.
Wednesday, we were back at work and once again, I just have a photograph from my office chair for you.
Yes, this is the view from my office.
