And the Winner is….

How synchronicity helped me choose my Word of the Year for 2023

A few days ago I posted about trying to decide on what my Word of the Year was going to be for 2023.

I’d started out with a list of twenty different possible words. By the time I wrote the story for Medium, I’d narrowed it down to five.

Inspire

Positivity

Bloom

Joyful

Release (Taking the de-clutter from the list, but changing it to ‘release’ as it can then mean releasing physical items in a de-cluttering manner, OR releasing some of the mental/emotional things that are holding me back because I won’t let go of them)

You can read the earlier post here:

It was touch and go for awhile. One minute I’d be leaning towards one of the words. An hour later, I was leaning towards another. Although, to be truthful, it seemed that either ‘positivity’ or ‘release’ was going to be the winner.

But if that wasn’t hard enough, some of the comments on the other post had some great suggestions on what my Medium friends would choose for their Word of the Year . Just to complicate the decision making process.

I still hadn’t decided.

And the New Year drew closer.

But then — synchronicity came to my rescue. (Again! It does so very often and I’m thankful for that.)

Yesterday afternoon, I was doing a little shopping before I left my part-time job and came home. I had two birthday presents I needed to buy.

My daughter-in-law has a birthday January 7th, and my best friend’s birthday is January 10th. The nerve of them! Having birthdays so close to Christmas!

As I wandered about Walmart, looking for a few smaller items that I could include in their boxes, I spied this coffee mug.

Today I Choose Joy

It practically screamed to me from the bin where it sat.

I choose joy.

I guess that’s it.

‘Joy’ is my Word of The Year. I didn’t choose it this year, the word chose me.

Happy New Year to my Medium friends here. I wish you all a year filled with joy and delights.
