Summary

The website content describes a fictional, dystopian town called Port Putridion, characterized by misfortune, where dreams are dashed and the unpleasant is a way of life.

Abstract

Port Putridion, a fictional town from the "Stolen Worlds" prompt in the "Microcosm" publication, is a place where everything goes wrong, from buildings dangerously balanced over water to persistent bad luck and social snubs. The town is plagued by bizarre ice cream flavors, mundane misfortunes, and an evil presence with notable eyebrows. It lacks the charm to attract tourism, except for a peculiar club, and its residents range from the elderly and eccentric to overly enthusiastic realtors and teenagers with their own dialect. Despite its bleakness, Port Putridion invites readers to engage with its peculiarities and draw inspiration from its fictional universe, which is intentionally left as a blank slate for interpretation.

Opinions

  • The author conveys a humorous yet cautionary tone, warning readers of the town's unrelenting misery.
  • There is a sense of irony in the description of the town's attractions, which are actually repellent.
  • The content suggests a satirical take on societal issues, such as development and tourism, by highlighting the absurdity of Port Putridion's situation.
  • The mention of a favorite childhood book's world as inspiration for Port Putridion invites a sense of nostalgia and curiosity, encouraging readers to identify the fictional universe referenced.
  • The author's frustration with the town's unpleasantness is evident, as they express a desire for escape or change that seems unlikely to come.

An Unfortunate World

You shouldn’t have clicked. Trust me.

If you like happy endings, fluffy golden retrievers, and general positivity, you’ve come to the wrong place!

In certain towns, like Port Putridion, everything seems to go wrong. The wrongest of wrong. The worst kind of wrong.

Good intentions, flittering about, get crushed by the do-no-gooders of the world. Hiding in the shadows with their pointy fingers and sneaky smirks.

This is a place where dreams go to shrivel and get sold at boring estate sales.

Here you’ll find…

…buildings precariously perched on thousand-foot scaffolding over ice-cold waters, where peculiar creatures await hungrily…

…sunlight that somehow never seems to shine on you…

…parties that people always forget to invite you to…

…ice cream flavors like sort-of-good gouda, pomegranate pickle, ketchup on warm fries, glue…

…and taxes, flat tires, scuffed shoes, empty piggybanks, overly talkative in-laws, closed public bathrooms, and acne.

There is an evil on the loose. Always scheming, always turning cogs and levers, seeking out its own will above all else. And it has mortifying eyebrows!

Why are you still reading?!

This place won’t be saved by some trust-fund developer! There’s no tourism (except of course for the stare-at-others-for-an-exorbitant-amount-of-time club which visits bi-monthly).

Why would anyone want to come here? I’m getting bored of it right now!

The people here are old and crotchety, except for those that have too much energy for their pants, so they wear none. And then there are the overly nice realtors, or the home movers that will often move items out of the wrong house, or the teen girls that have developed an entire language around the word “like”.

In Port Putridion, “hope” is spelled with an “n”.

Good day…

This is a response to the Stolen Worlds prompt in Microcosm.

Port Putridion is a fictional town based in the world of my favorite childhood books, see if you can guess what world in the comments. It is a blank slate for you to fill. Good luck! (If there is such a thing)
