You CAN get relief from your grief | Widows | Healing Mindset

An Unexpected Calming Benefit from Death Cleaning?

Avoiding cleaning out your husband’s things can keep you trapped in the past and in your grief much longer than you want.

Graphic created by the author.

My husband had been in a memory care facility for four months when I read “The Gentle Art of Death Cleaning”. It was during the darkest days of my mourning … because I knew my husband would never come home. He would live the last days of his life there.

I took the author’s advice and started cleaning out my house as if we both had died. I was able to give away most of my husband’s things. I also cleaned out a lot of my stuff that I didn’t use anymore. Plus all the unopened moving boxes in the basement that I never looked at in 20 years.

I was surprised at how soon I felt relief from my sadness. There was more space for lighter energy to fill my house. The heaviness of my heartache and anguish seemed to lessen its grip on me.

For some reason, I felt inspired to create this video about what happened to me. I also wanted to let other widows know it’s okay to want to get relief from their grief. That they, too, could reap some calming benefits by letting go of their husband’s things.

Below is a revised video I created. Mainly because my husband has passed away. You can view the video by clicking on the image.

I also created a guide — “3 Tips for Giving Away Your Husband’s Things”. You can get it by clicking on this sentence. The guide will help you to reset your mindset so that guilt will not stop you.

We widows still have a life to live. Holding onto our husband’s possessions will not help us, nor will they bring him back. The book and my guide will help lighten some of the heaviness of your grief.

PS I’m a widow who refuses to live a life filled with grief but, instead, I live a life filled with joy, happiness, and love. I’m allowing my bodaciousness to direct how I will live the rest of my life.
