OPEN LETTERS
An Open Letter to Windows 10
I can’t do this any more

Dear Windows 10,
You’re a persistent bugger, I’ll give you that. I’ve refused to sign off on your proposed updates, I’ve turned your updates off, I’ve disabled your updates entirely… I even took to manually deleting the files you insist on still downloading every time I turn my computer off.
Yet you still persist.
The thing is, Windows 10, you’re broken. You keep trying to install your updates and failing. It wouldn’t be so bad if you gave up, but instead you then go on to fail at not installing the updates.
If I let you attempt to install your infernal updates, you enter a death loop of constant rebooting. “Windows is installing updates”, “Windows could not install updates, undoing”, “Windows is installing updates”, ad infinitum.
I recently found our there is an entirely separate process running that is, as best I can tell, dedicated to turning Windows Update back on when it has been disabled.
And, brilliantly, I can’t disable that service.
Dear Windows 10, do you realise how much of a ball-ache it is to have to delete unwanted update files before logging off every time? Do you understand the dread I feel on those times I forget, knowing that I have to break into Windows through safe mode, hoping against hope that you’ll allow it since sometimes you just decide to ignore my boot preferences anyway?
Be honest with me… is this about that time I used a MacBook?
I can’t live like this, Windows 10. No means no, and if you can’t accept that, we can’t be together.
Yours in eternal frustration,
Future Linux User
