Abstract

"An Onomato-PEE-AHHHHH Special Poem" is a playful and humorous piece that uses onomatopoeia to describe common household scenarios. The poem, written by Bhavna Narula in response to a prompt by Michael Burg, MD, weaves together sounds like "hmph," "clink," "giggle," and "murmur" to paint a vivid picture of a child's interactions and observations within the home. It includes a variety of sound effects that reflect the child's experiences, from accidentally stepping on a pet's tail to reacting to a kissing scene on TV. The poem concludes with an invitation to the reader to join in the fun by laughing heartily and making a splat sound. Narula expresses her gratitude to those who inspired the poem and apologizes for the delay in crafting her response, while also acknowledging the challenge of the prompt and the high standard set by another writer, Holly J See.

An Onomato-PEE-AHHHHH Special Poem

A rather rare concoction of random sounds thrown together

When we get bored at home and look outside, Mom says hmph You dare not tried.

When I play football in the dining room clink is the sound; that brings mom out with a broom.

When I step on poochie’s tail just by mistake grrr growls the poochie back looking poisonous like a snake.

When I watch a kissing scene with mom and dad I giggle very hard so as to not look a chad.

When the neighbor catches me schlurpppp my milkshake I use my eyes and neck to act like a drake.

When I hear my sister murmur on a call, in a closed room I already imagine her as a bride standing beside her bridegroom.

When I see my dad going Mmmmm and my mom going sooo I know what happens next but I pretend I don't know.

When a roach flies with a whoosh mom runs with a zing and I see my dad go ka-chingggg!!!!

When the cow says moo and the pigs say yoikes! I know I have to run I have no choice.

Now don't just say hmm Be free and give a guffaw Just laugh as hard as you can and SPLAT the table with your claw.

This story’s in response to Doctor Funny’s Onomatopoetic Prompt to write something using these words: hmph, sooo, clink, hmm…, grrr (growl), SPLAT, Mmmmm, whoosh, ka-ching!, onomato-PEE-AHHHHH, murmur, egad, guffaw, schlurpppp, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!, moo, yoikes!, giggle, grrrrphhhh, zing. Quite a challenge.

Thank you very much, Michael Burg, MD (AKA Medium Michael Burg) for tagging me for this prompt. Sorry, it took me 2 months to finally prepare something with the sounds, and yet it sounds so disappointing to me.

Sorry, Doctor Funny, this is the best I could get. 😁

Thank you Holly J See for tagging me once again when you attempted this prompt. And wow! I was amazed at your excellent take on the prompt. Great work there. Please check out her work at the following link.
