An Ode to Dishonesty
When Honesty is Not the Best Policy
Liars, crackers, pants on fires;
Falsification of facts
— is up on the mires.
Propaganda, posters, and rumours
—make them believe,
“Who” you ask? Why, the foolish observers!
Mold, sculpt, and portray,
Paint a picture
— without reality’s embrace.
Truth be told…
Wait!
We don’t use that anymore!
Lies be believed;
Yes!
That’s more our cup o’ tea.
Sing our songs
— and tell tall tales.
Fables, Grand Schemes, and Plots all day.
Cheat, obfuscate, and beguile
Lie to tell the lives
— that you lived to the lie.
Fabricate, falsify, and spin the yarn;
What’s real or not
— is flung far.
Who are we that lie so glee?
You’ll never know
— for our true selves are deceived.
Lo and behold!
There comes the truth.
Throw a few stones and give Him one last shook.
THE END
My desire to write a poem was inspired by Mike Broadley’s first attempt at poetry, which was in turn directly inspired by Dr. Mehmet Yildiz’s Here’s How You Can Enjoy Your Life More in Better Zones.
His was missing his signature Aussie broad schtick lingo, though, and I felt some humour was due. While not connected in any way whatsoever, reading it conjured up some interesting rhymes in my head and here’s the result.
No hidden messages, allusions, or literary devices to spark your poetic genius, just some silly ol’ rhymes from a writer with a few minutes to spare.
Here are some sample stories from my writing collection.
