An October Surprise

Out of season

Last Sunday, I decided to wander by the sea, Having Sprained My Ribs. and the pain of it notwithstanding. I stepped out of the back door and turned onto the patio where I was greeted by this beautiful Anemone.

It stunned me with its brilliant white and dew was still glistening on its petals. I stopped, astounded, taken completely by surprise and joy. We have had so much rain in September, and with my injured ribs, I had not been in the garden for about two weeks.

I paused for some time, reveling in the luscious blossoms which glistened and seem to sparkle in the sunlight. I took a photo, (I later posted it to Instagram, but that’s another story), and just let it fill my senses.

I recall planting an Anemone not but there. I thought it was under the trees. After all, they are woodland plants. So maybe it is a volunteer, or the pot got moved. Birds do bless me with plants. I have a tiny Oak for which to find a home. (I will pot it on and donate it to the council.)

I find October a difficult month, especially this one. Breathing well, for me, depends quite a bit on the weather. It is raining again but mild, which is not ideal for me. I loved last Fall, which was sunny and warm until almost November. We call them Indian Summers, and I love them. With the changing colors of leaves, being out for a walk in bright sunshine is exhilarating. I mourn when rain and storms come quickly like they did the year before last.

This Anemone reminds me that life is good even if we are in pain or have a disease. We just need to find a way to work around it.
