An Idiot’s View on Climate Change
I’m no scientist. April Challenge #22 Does climate change scare you?
I will never claim to be a scientist. What I will claim to be is another idiot trying to make sense of what’s going on around him. I’m retired, so you’d think I would have enough time on my hands to research some of this stuff, but so far, I haven’t.
I blame it on my job. For years, I did spreadsheets, analyzed financial and sales reports, responded to hundreds of emails a day, worked on operations productivity and on and on ad nauseam.
So, I’m tired of all the research. But fortunately for me, most of the research on climate change has already been done. If you’re living in the world today and don’t believe the climate is changing and global warming is a real “thing,” you are not reading or listening to the facts being shared by people who are in the know and have the advanced degrees and validated research to back up their claims.
Even being an idiot, I know enough to notice changes around me that have happened in my lifetime. And yes, climate change scares me. Not just for the changes in my lifetime. I’m afraid for my grandchildren and those that come after. What are we leaving for future generations?
I was watching the Today show a couple of days ago, which is what many of us retired people do while enjoying our first cup of coffee, and they talked about the increase in turbulence encountered on flights these days. Scientists say it’s going to continue to get worse because of climate change. And as this continues to get worse, the possibility of cancelled flights will increase.
If climate change has begun affecting turbulence in the skies and it’s predicted to get worse over time, it would appear to me the potential exists for the worsening changes to affect all aspects of weather patterns in the future. But I’m an idiot.
To wrap this up, if an idiot knows climate change exists and you’re a little behind the curve, you might want to start reading. I have a couple of good articles I can recommend as a starting point from some friends on Medium. One friend is Bruce Coulter and another is Adrienne Beaumont. I think their articles speak better than I can on this topic because they are passionate and astute individuals. I’m including links to their articles below, and I hope you’ll read them. Don’t listen to me, I’m an idiot.
