I got this error in a CloudFormation template with a condition. I wrote about conditions here:

The problem with this case is that I had a condition where I was using the Equals condition in a YAML CloudFormation template.

I failed to add the exclamation point (!) in front of Equals. When I added that the code worked.

It seems like the error should be something like “Condition operator syntax error.” and that the parser could figure out and recommend something like:

Did you mean “!Equals”?

Clearly the person is trying to use Equals. But there’s no ! or fn: prefixing it which causes the problem.

Follow for updates.
