An Ancient Recipe From a Roman Emperor To Find Your Inner Strength
A collection of revolutionary pieces of advice by Marcus Aurelius

Ever since I’ve heard about the former Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, he has become one of the most influential people in my life. I’ve found his ability to find his inner strength through differentiating between what he should be concerned with, and what he should not, incredibly inspiring.
So today I’d like to share his ancient recipe to find your inner strength, and there are 2 steps to follow.
These are:
1-Learn to separate your existence from others
2-Realise where your power lies
1-Learn to separate your existence from others
In our daily lives, it can be hard for us to separate our existence from others, and we may find ourselves too occupied with the lives, and opinions of others.
Freedom of Thought calls it being a prisoner to someone's idea of you, and it is where most of us spend our days. Therefore it is essential to be aware of it and avoiding to waste time energy on this by start focusing on our own life.
“Don’t waste the rest of your time here worrying about other people — unless it affects the common good. It will keep you from doing anything useful. You’ll be too preoccupied with what so-and-so is doing, and why, and what they’re saying, and what they’re thinking, and what they’re up to, and all the other things that throw you off and keep you from focusing on your own mind.”
— Marcus Aurelius
2-Realise where your power lies
To feel in control is an addictive state to be in, and this is because it makes us feel safe through the power we feel.
But if this power is sustained by our ability to control the external world, then it is not so sustainable after all. Our inner world, on the other hand, is where we can find our true strength.
As Epictetus says “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.”. So by focusing on our minds, and perspectives, we can avoid feeling burdened by the external world.
“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
— Marcus Aurelius
