An Abundance of Amazingly Wonderous Wild Animals

Gee whiz, can you believe this month is almost over already? And it feels like it just started!

Don’t know about you, but I’ve enjoyed checking out so many amazing animal stories during this month’s wildlife challenge presented to us by Anne Bonfert:

Herein I’ve listed some of my favorite animal encounters of the past, but what I’m really focused on is the future. Recently, with the help of my global nomad friend Jillian Amatt, I’ve been looking to get into house sitting and am hoping to decide on a place soon.

Check out her previous posts:

Housesitting Is a Great Way To Travel the World

I’m also well-inspired though, of course, by all the intrepid travelers here at Globetrotters, especially the solo travelers. The world is really an oyster for the taking.

Where to go exactly is a huge question though isn’t it? Since I’ve been out of the country for most of two years living as an expat in Trinidad, I wouldn’t mind spending some time back home in the United States for a little while. But next year… who knows? Mexico, Canada, South America, Europe… the options are nearly endless. That planning stage can be both exciting and frightening at the same time, can’t it?

Oh, the freedom to roam… I can taste it… and almost reach out and feel it. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling?

Oh, but where were we… let’s get back to the animals here.

On a recent trip to Idaho, I enjoyed seeing the geese wandering freely along the Snake River greenbelt. So beautiful and serene! A feast for weary eyes, don’t you think?

One of my favorite wildlife photos is from when me and a friend of mine relocated an endangered gopher turtle from the middle-of-the-road in Florida. We carefully moved him to a spot that looked safe.

Not all Florida turtles are so lucky though. Always hate it when I see… oh, you can just imagine… don’t even want to say it. Poor things having to live in a world infested with too many humans accidently running them over.

This is another of my favorite photos from one of my many trips to Yellowstone Park in Wyoming. While in this area I’ve loved encountering elk, deer, buffalo, bears, moose and many other wonderful wild animals. I love that they have a habitat that is as protected as possible, although I always hate to hear of stories of people f*cking with them too much.

I mean, see, appreciate, photograph, but then scram and leave them alone and let them do their thing (the photo above was of course taken with a telephoto lens.) Don’t try to get too close. Don’t try to feed them or pet them. In other words, don’t be stupid.

Ok, getting down from my soapbox now.

Anyway, we’ve had so many incredible stories this month. You can read them all by going here: MONTHLY CHALLENGE — Globetrotters — Medium.

We will accept submissions to the challenge up until tomorrow, September 27th, although we will still welcome travel related wildlife stories thereafter. It won’t be part of the challenge, but we will still love to read them.

Here are a couple to check out:
