In a 2019 Fox News poll, 1 in 4 Americans reported that they believed “God wanted Donald Trump to become president.”
- “God” wants Donald Trump to become president.
- “God” wants to stop abortion and preserve all life.
- “God” wants to kill women and LGBTQ people and targets trans kids.
Wait! Whaaaat???
If more people understood — Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox “News,” also. owns the editorial rights to the Bible but doesn’t like it when people call him “God.” Rupert doesn’t like much about Christianity — except the profit and the power.
“That stuff freaks Rupert out. He doesn’t like all the spiritual talk,” the source said.
There Are No Banks and ATMs in Heaven
Yet, Christians believe because they themselves are sincere and (for the most part) good and well-intentioned — the people in charge of their faith are, too.
Consumers don’t expect the corporate owners of Nike or Wal-Mart to be above the law or scrutiny — why shouldn’t we expect the same from our church leaders — but with a higher bar, not less than or no bar at all?
Christianity is a secular business. Christian nationalism is deliberately programmed by Fox “News,” which also owns the Bible and most Christian media.
Christian Consumers Don’t Realize Their Collective Power — but Marketers Sure as Hell Do!
- “Corporate Christianity” is a 74.5 billion dollar industry that is tax-free, unregulated, and owned by secular organizations and even traded on the stock market.
- “Faith-based” organizations collectively contribute over USD 378 billion annually to the US economy, rivaling some of the largest tech companies combined.
- Anti-abortion facilities raked in at least $1.4bn in revenue in the 2022 fiscal year, the year Roe v Wade fell — a staggering haul that includes at least $344m in government money.
- Pro-life is deliberately a regulatory dead zone.
- Google takes millions from pro-life groups masquerading as abortion clinics in deceptive ads.
- “This whole story from Louisiana is a microcosm of how corporate money can impact elections, and by extension the fate of constitutional rights and individual liberties.”
- 85% of churches report their congregation is active on Facebook, with additional usage of Twitter and Instagram to reach members.
Anti-abortion is by far the most influential and highest-earning marketing campaign in existence, but it has no biblical basis.

A Particular Set of Beliefs Around Race
Fox News Republicans, many of whom are white evangelicals, display a particular set of beliefs around race that make it difficult to make strides in racial justice.
From the report among Fox News Republicans:
98 percent view President Trump favorably (59 percent very favorably)
93 percent approve of the way President Trump is handling racial justice protests
90 percent agree that recent killings of Black people by police are isolated incidents (nine percent say they are part of a larger pattern)
91 percent oppose the goals of the Black Lives Matter movement
94 percent agree that Confederate monuments are symbols of Southern pride and not racist
58 percent say that white people face a lot of discrimination today (36 percent say Black people face a lot of discrimination)
A Trump-appointed judge declared that no one in their right mind could take Tucker Carlson’s show seriously.
That is, Vyskocil bought the argument Fox News was pushing that Carlson is, first and foremost, not a provider of “the news” as we know it, or “facts” as we commonly understand them, and his audience knows this. They’re apparently in on the gag. Fox News doesn’t label Carlson’s speech parody because that’s embarrassing for a company with the word news in its name to admit; it’s not factual journalism because that implies some responsibility for the credibility of the information that you spew. Instead, Fox News lawyers claim, Carlson is not “stating actual facts” but simply engaging in “non-literal commentary.” I couldn’t have described Carlson or Fox News better myself.
It’s time to declare that Fox is not news.
