Allow Yourself To Enjoy The Process And See What Happens

When you stop trying to control your writing, you create a state of mind where you’re just open to whatever comes

When I started to relax and let my mind wander, my writing takes over. I’m not sure where it comes from, but the words just flow out of me. It’s like my subconscious is in control and is just churning out the story.

My subconscious was churning through and I felt inspired. I started to type and the words just poured out of me. After a few minutes, I had written a decent-sized outline for my story. This has never happened before and it’s not something that can be replicated just at will, but when it does happen, it’s amazing!

I didn’t always let myself allow myself to relax when writing. In fact, I used to overthink it.

  • What keywords should I inject into the article?
  • What message do I want to have?
  • Is my grammar perfect?
  • Should I write a trendy post or evergreen content?

I had a million and one thought while writing. This distracted me a lot. I would take hours just to finish one article.

It wasn’t until I watch Soul, the Disney+Pixar movie about a musician chasing his dream. There are a lot of lessons in that movie. You should definitely watch it if you haven’t.

Flow

One of the key takeaways was the flow state. It isn’t a new concept but it is often overlooked. You might know flow state as what we normally say when someone is “in the zone” of their work.

The flow state is a state of being present and fully focused on the task at hand. It is about being fully immersed in what you are doing, even if it feels effortless.

“The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you’re using your skills to the utmost,”

— MIHALY Csikszentmihalyi

Through Soul and learning about flow state, I’ve allowed myself to truly enjoy the process of writing. I stopped overthinking it and started letting my subconscious take over.

When you stop trying to control your writing, that’s where inspiration comes from. You create a state of mind where you’re just open to whatever comes.

After a while, words flow out of me, creating articles I didn’t think I would (or could) write. It’s incredible what your subconscious mind can achieve.

I will never forget the time when I wrote a 1,000-word article in 30 minutes flat.

It was amazing and unexplainable. And because I love the process so much, it doesn’t matter the outcome of the article.

From writing to working in my 9 to 5, I’ve found that when I enjoy them and allow myself to get lost in the process, the outcome is always better. It’s less stressful and more enjoyable.

It’s truly a wonderful experience to be in the flow state because it feels effortless. You feel completely immersed in what you are doing and everything just seems to make sense.

It’s a great feeling and you would want to experience it again and again. So the first step is just to relax and let your mind wander.

After all, if you have been overthinking about every word, sentence, paragraph, chapter, etc., perhaps it’s time to just let go and allow yourself to get lost.

It’s an acquired skill, but once you learn to do it, your message will effortlessly flow through you.
