Summary

The author has been unexpectedly selected for further distribution of their stories on a platform, despite not understanding the reasons behind this decision or how to replicate this success.

Abstract

The author, who humorously refers to themselves as one of the "chosen people" for their frequent luck with parking spots, has recently been designated by an algorithm, whimsically named "Al Gorithm," as a writer whose stories are chosen for further distribution. These stories cover topics such as writing, success, future prospects, lost love, and the pandemic. The author expresses confusion over why these particular pieces were selected, as they do not perceive them as exceptional compared to their other work. Despite the "chosen" status, the author has not noticed an increase in readership. They express a desire for more insight into the algorithm's decision-making process to better understand what resonates with readers and to potentially replicate this success. The author remains in a state of bemused gratitude, likening their situation to biblical references and expressing a hope for future guidance or revelation regarding their work's reception.

Opinions

  • The author is puzzled and amused by the algorithm's selection of their stories for further distribution.
  • They believe that the stories chosen are not inherently superior to their other writings.
  • The author wishes for greater transparency from the algorithm to understand what makes certain stories more appealing for wider distribution.
  • They are skeptical about whether the "chosen" designation will actually lead to increased popularity or readership.
  • The author maintains a humorous and light-hearted tone when discussing their work and the mysterious nature of the algorithm's choices.
  • They draw parallels between their situation and religious themes, such as being "chosen" and referencing scripture, to add a layer of irony to their musings.

Al Gorithm Smoked Crack, Dropped Acid, Did ‘X,’ and ‘Curated’ a Bunch of My Stories

I am one of the ‘chosen for further distribution’ people — WTF?!

Me. Puzzled. Photo by Blake Campbell on Unsplash

I often joke that I’m one of the chosen people. (Actually I am one of them, if you believe in that sort of thing, a M.O.T.*)

Chosen for getting good parking spots that is, since that seems to happen with a truly old-testament-level of miraculous regularity.

Then there’s the “chosen for millennia of abuse and persecution,” but that’s only about half as funny.

Well now, the very hand of God, or perhaps it’s just Al Gorithm getting all hopped up and going wild, has reached out and granted me a series of “chosen for further distribution” honors.

I have no idea why.

The “chosen” stories address: writing, writing success, writing some more, the future, a lost love, and my present love — the pandemic. IMHO they’re no worse or better than anything else I’ve done in the last year. The topics are certainly not unique. And, even if I wanted to, I couldn’t begin to sort out why they were chosen so I could trade on that info and do it some more. Also, the “chosen” designation has not done a thing to enhance my popularity. Not that I wouldn’t mind if a few more readers came my way, but that seems unlikely. Maybe the broader audience that “chosen” stories goes to is already saturated and satiated with other better stuff. Oy!

I do wish that Al Gorithm was both more relational and more transparent.

I don’t really need to know what goes on behind the curation curtain, but it would be useful to know what features of my stories suddenly qualified them for distribution to a broader audience. I’m here to learn. Knowing what triggers readers to react positively seems like it aught to be part of my education.

For now though I’m going with “happy but puzzled” as my reaction. Maybe guidance, an explanation, a revelation, a voice from a burning bush, something, will be forthcoming; who knows?

Meanwhile … from 2 Timothy 4:7 (Timothy! really!?) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; [Source: https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/Examples-Of-Faith]

Thanks from a M.O.T.* writer and a chosen person. 😜
