AI Image How-To — #25
Add a margin of chaos— secrets revealed!

It’s winter here. It’s been winter forever — brown and white everywhere you look. With the severe lack of warmth, color, and my toes in the soft, green grass — I thought we could use a little chaos and color for this article!
These images were created with Midjourney’s new V5.
If you look carefully, each image will have a margin of chaos or etchings in the image. This is intentional — not MJ going wonky (this time.)
I thought the contrast of volcanic islands, beautiful waters (most images had shades of blue water — I thought this was awesome with the blazing sun casting highlights,) and birds soaring high above would be relaxing. And a stark contrast to the world outside my window.
I added vibrant colors to many of these prompts (partly because I’m going stir crazy for warm weather and the splash of color it brings.)
So how do you get the subtle chaos and various etchings?
Try adding marginalia to your prompt! What does marginalia even mean, you ask? Marginal notes. You know, those wild people that doodle in the margins of books that should be locked up — and likely dog-ear the pages.
Prompt for image above:
Volcanic islands with waterfalls and birds flying, marginalia, magical scenes, vibrant colors, 32K, ultra HD — v 5

You can better see the marginal etchings in the tree house — faint (especially on a mobile device) but they are there.
I want an amazing tree house like this!
We used a twisted tree with a tree house to get stunning images — each one amazing. One had mini waterfalls flowing from the trunk. Some had more birdhouses or decorations hanging from the branches. Each had this wonderful, winding staircase up the twisted trunk.
Prompt for image above:
Fantasy twisted tree with a tree house, marginalia, magical scenes, 32K, vibrant colors, surreal artwork, ultra HD

Then I thought we needed something more unique. This is such a fun, little village of mushroom houses!
The mountains in the background look more like slime or some type of goo — but it’s still cool.
If you compare the size of the flowers and trees to the mushroom houses, they are massive!
Prompt for image above:
Fantasy mushroom houses, marginalia, magical scenes, 32K, vibrant colors, surreal artwork, ultra HD --v 5

Here is another volcanic island — without the vibrant colors.
Still amazing. I want to live there.
Prompt for image above:
Volcanic islands with waterfalls and birds flying, marginalia, magical scenes, 32K, ultra HD --v 5

Yes, I went a little wild with fantasy and vibrant colors in this one. I love how the water is reflective and shimmers with the beauty of the clouds.
The plant life seems to hold the touch of chaos in this image.
Prompt for image above:
Fantasy lake, marginalia, magical scenes, 32K, vibrant colors, surreal artwork, ultra HD --v 5

This image was created using V4 then Upscaled (before V5 was released.)
This image took some trial and error — A LOT actually.
I was so busy with work and life, I missed out on National Pi Day. So, this image is in celebration of that as I used Marginalia portrait made of a π in the prompt!
After many images, I did not get the vaperwave effect that I wanted but I did get a really cool image.
Prompt for image above:
Marginalia portrait made of a π, image of Vaperwave Native American with braids, karrueche, Bauhaus forms, and anodized reflections in hair, staring into the opalescent forest, by Mario Testino

You can get a really awesome variety of images with this simple prompt of Fantasy book!
I originally created this with 8K but the images have much better quality using 32K. 8K made very grainy, poor images — especially if you zoomed in at all (or looked at them on a computer.)
Prompt for image above:
Fantasy book, marginalia, magical scenes, 32K, vibrant colors, surreal artwork, ultra HD --v 5

This image was created using V4 then Upscaled.
I wanted to show one option how you could tweak the fantasy book prompt for a desired effect. I changed the prompt to Fantasy book of dragons.
Prompt for image above:
Fantasy book of dragons, marginalia, magical scenes, 8K, vibrant colors, surreal artwork, ultra HD
