Agile Explained Briefly
First and foremost it’s a mindset
…the Agile movement in software is part of a larger movement towards more humane and dynamic workplaces in the 21st century — Rowan Bunning
Change is inevitable. It happens at a seemingly ever-increasing rate. Agile is a mindset and provides us with values, principles, and practices not just to handle but to embrace this rapid change. It lets us discover the products that we build while we’re building it, making unprofitable investments far less likely. Adopting this mindset as opposed to just implementing agile principles is key to success. The Agile mindset incorporates the growth mindset described by Carol Dweck in which continuous learning is essential to success. This growth mindset is required if you wish to follow the Agile Manifesto which provides us with 12 guiding principles. These include, amongst others, the following condensed points:
- Build self-organizing and interdisciplinary teams and trust them to get the job done
- Focus on delivering value to the customer
- Release early and often so you quickly and continuously learn, how well your product is meeting user needs
Agile overlaps and integrates well with other mindsets and methodologies such as Human Centricity and Design Thinking. Find out more:
