Summary

Tim Maudlin, an experienced illustrator and author, shares his reliance on templates as a trusted process for overcoming the intimidation of a blank page or screen and efficiently creating content, emphasizing the value of a step-by-step system for consistent results.

Abstract

Tim Maudlin, who has a rich history in architectural illustration, including works like the Mall of America, expresses his appreciation for templates as a means to combat the fear of starting with a blank canvas. He equates the use of templates to a reliable process, akin to the systematic approach he used in his illustration career, which involved progressing from a pencil layout to a finished color illustration. Maudlin extends this concept to content creation, advocating for a trusted, step-by-step system that yields proven results. He offers his own content creation system and an ebook that details the benefits of using templates, which he created using his ACRONYM template. The ebook is available for readers to explore the efficiencies and creative spark that templates can provide.

Afraid of a Blank Computer Screen?

Me too!

“Why Do I Love Templates? Let me count the ways.”

I love templates because it’s a process I can trust.

Processes are great. Systems that guide to a desired result.

Those who know me, know I LOVE to draw. I’ve been doing it all of my life. From scribbles on my Grandma’s wallpaper to the drawing before you.

For almost 30 years, I was an architectural illustrator. I’ve drawn buildings located all over the world. One you might have heard of is that little shopping mall in Minnesota, The Mall of America. Or maybe the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I have a confession to make. There’s something about me I bet you didn’t know. I am intimidated by a blank sheet of paper. I know it might sound silly but it’s true. I would get very apprehensive every time I started a new illustration.

The way I learned how to manage that fear was to trust the process. That process was to start with something, a model of a building. From there, construct a pencil layout, then a black and white drawing, and finally a color illustration.

That process worked time and time again.

Templates provide a process to create content. A step-by-step approach. A system that works time and time again.

I’m using that system with this content. The key is to trust the process.

Afraid of a blank sheet of paper? Afraid of a blank computer screen? You don’t have to be.

Trusted Process. Step-by-Step System. Proven Results.

Can I send you something? It’s my go-to system for content creation.
