Summary

The content discusses the psychological effects of romantic rejection, drawing parallels between the longing for an unrequited love and drug addiction, and includes a creative poem from the perspective of an infatuated individual.

Abstract

The provided text delves into the theme of romantic obsession, likening the experience of unreciprocated feelings to drug dependency. It features a poem that captures the intense emotions and thoughts of someone who is deeply attracted to another person, despite knowing that their affection is not returned. The poem humorously yet poignantly portrays the speaker's internal struggle, including the desire to be close to the object of their affection and the temptation to cyberstalk. The narrative is inspired by an article by Jennifer Pitts, which explores the psychological mechanisms behind the persistent desire for someone after facing rejection, suggesting that such rejection affects the brain in ways similar to drug withdrawal. I am hooked on a drug That is you I am stuck Why don’t you like me too

Rejection only makes me want you more You can fight it all you want to You say we just met But I fucking love you

I’ll watch you from across the street I bet that you would cheat I’ll stalk you on the internet Your love I will get

I want to be near you I want to feel your touch This time I won’t bug you Much

I swear I am not a stalker 🤣 I did write this poem from the viewpoint of a stalker though. I thought it would be fun after reading a great article.

I was inspired to write this piece because of Jennifer Pitts’ article titled Why the Psychology of Romantic Rejection Keeps You Hooked on a Person. She has some very interesting facts about how romantic rejection can affect your brain the same as a drug. You can find her wonderful piece below.
