Acknowledging Your Yearning for Creativity

Being bored can be the invitation to creativity like no other

“Boredom hits everyone from time to time.”

– Unknown author

I experienced boredom when I was younger; however, having kids and a grandchild filled those feelings.

However, being a caretaker made establishing those creative outlets even more of an integral part of my being in order to keep a positive outlook. There was a time in my life when I didn’t put my needs on the list of priorities. My emotional tank ran on empty most days. With this being said, boredom can be one of those perfect opportunities to make a positive change.

Boredom is an open door for ourselves. We must learn to be even more creative with our time to fulfill our desires in life as our days get busier.

We must wake each morning knowing our desires in life are essential. Yes, loving those around us is a priority, but honoring our own desires is also a vital role in our existence.

Our purpose is for more than just taking up space here. A creator made us with the intention for us to create alongside them. We were born with gifts and talents. There isn’t anything we cannot do if the willingness to learn is present.

To feel bored is simply feeling low on energy or a lack of interest in much. Perhaps you might even be feeling tired.

Regardless of how you are feeling, could acknowledging your yearning for creativity be the lesson at hand when it comes to boredom?

“The heart has a yearning for the unknown, a longing to penetrate the deep shadow and the winding glade, where, as it seems, no human foot has been.”

— Richard Jefferies

The following video is just over ten minutes long, so, if you’re bored or hoping to learn something new, now might be a good time to watch it. Perhaps we can all learn something new from a simple dot and the line.

Do we risk being dull or bored if we continue doing the same old – same old?

Trying something new

The possibilities in a day are endless. Yet, some days, is it okay to sit? Of course, yet, if repeated day after day, laziness sets in, a dark, consuming cloud.

We mustn’t dare risk becoming lazy. Idleness is a horrible place to find yourself.

So, there will be days when you feel bored, which is okay, but it’s more about the action you take to change the feeling behind it.

What do you think might be getting in the way of trying something new? Or maybe it’s not even trying something new as much as finding a new time or manner of doing something?

Did you have a dream as a child? Maybe this could lead you to rediscover that activity again. Or it’s okay to think way outside the box even. If you don’t have a clue, just google it. There are hundreds of ideas if you are feeling bored. It only takes a spark to ignite your creativity again.

“Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.”

– Ashley Smith

Roadblocks stop progress

We must fight for our dreams because there will always be those roadblocks that get in our way.

What might be some of them:

  • Negative mindset
  • Clutter
  • Overwhelmed
  • Overcommitted
  • Procrastination
  • Not inspired
  • No vision

Now that you might have identified what’s stopping you from being as creative as you would like, you must take action to move those roadblocks to the side of your path.

Overcome those obstructions

Once you recognize your barriers, how can you acknowledge your desire and make a change for the good?

For example, if clutter is your roadblock, I can relate. I was very encouraged by Trista Signe Ainsworth article to de-clutter my home recently.

When I have too much clutter or those messy areas in my home, I feel like I can’t spare the time to do something creative or fun, possibly. I always feel like I have cleaning lingering over my head.

So lately, I have taken an hour a day to organize a small area in my home. Two weeks ago, it was the bathroom. Last week it was the bedroom and this week it’s the kitchen. Thank you, Trista; I feel like I’m ahead of my spring cleaning plans. Although the Christmas decorations are still up, but that’s another story.

“When we choose to declutter – and have less stuff – we can really reap the rewards of a simpler life. I for one like the sound of that!”

Open to more

If you have been feeling bored, could boredom be the invite you have been longing for?

There is always more to our feelings if we are willing to discover what holds us back from truly living a passionate life.

Our yearning for creativity doesn’t only deserve acknowledgment, but it also deserves love and respect.
