About Me — Melissa Morris
A nurse, a writer and an adventure seeker

Hello Medium!
It’s about time that I introduce myself properly. You would think that it would be pretty easy to write; however, I have sat at my computer for over 30 minutes, and this is possibly my 3rd attempt at an introduction.
So without further delay…
I’m Melissa, and I live in Australia. I have lived in several countries and love to travel. My love of reading and creating epic storylines has fed my sense of adventure. However, it has meant that I don’t always stay in the same place, making finding a community difficult.
Professionally, I have a background in nursing, and I’ve also been involved in Christian ministry for the last 5+ years. This experience has enabled me to travel the world and live in places where very few tourists have travelled.
I speak intermediate French ( sort of) and the bare basics of Arabic. I think my love for the English language allows me to be fascinated with other languages and how words convey different meanings. Now that I am not working full-time nursing, I have found that my creativity is coming back, and there is freedom and excitement in knowing that I could take it anywhere.
Writing on Medium is a new adventure; I will have finished my current job by June. I hope that writing on Medium will help me improve my writing and create the opportunity to connect with other writers.
I think we all are interested in making some money, and if Medium is an opportunity that provides this, that will be a fantastic bonus.
It would be easy to assume that my sense of adventure has forced me to decide to jump straight from a full-time job into freelance writing. It sounds ludicrous even as I type it. I don’t have a backup plan, and I don’t have savings.
Many people would not make such a bold decision.
So why did I do it?
The answer may be surprising or, to some, even more crazy. Jesus.
My faith in God is an essential part of my life. He is my best friend, provider and protector.
Over the last couple of years, I have seen him do amazing miracles, providing needed finances and opening doors to allow me to return to Australia with all that is going on with the pandemic.
I have nearly been homeless, and he provided accommodation. God has completely changed my life!
Specific opportunities are finishing up/ closing and seasons that are ending.
I believe that God wants me to focus on writing and improving my writing. What for, I don’t know yet. But I will do it because I know that he would never ask me to do something that he didn’t have a plan for.
So what do I write? This is a question that I have been mulling over for the last couple of weeks. I don’t have a niche, and I don’t think I want to niche down.
Some of my recent articles have looked at resilience, mental health and productivity.
I am also keen to share more about my travelling experience, but most of all I just want to write about life, including my faith in God, but limited too.
Medium is an excellent place with various views and opinions. I know that views on God and Christianity are not always positive. I am not trying to shove anything down your throat. I just want to share my experience.
Often when you’re sitting in a group and they have those icebreaker games, it’s like ‘introduce yourself and tell us something interesting.’ I’m not a massive fan of those activities; however, this is a similar moment so…
I love anything chocolate, particularly dark chocolate.
I’m a reluctant romantic who dislikes clichés. Funnily enough, I fell in love with Paris when I lived there in 2020/1 and dream of going back. (this is like the most cliché thing ever, I know)
I have a twin sister, and yes, we look alike, but no, we can’t read each other’s minds.🙂
I love to meet new people and have friends worldwide, so please send me a message or contact me on whatever platform you prefer.
