About Me | Melissa Klock: Embracing Life’s Journey with Resilience and Empowerment
More Than Meets the Eye: The Layers of My Story

Hello, my beautiful soul people, my tribe that I have finally found- Medium writers and readers after all my young years of being on this earth — I’m Melissa Klock. 👋
This article marks my first attempt at an ‘About Me’ piece here on Medium. As I approach my two-month mark on this platform, I said to myself “self, there’s no perfect time other than the present” to introduce myself and share what makes me tick with all you great people on Medium!
What follows is a journey that’s been anything, but ordinary. It’s about defying expectations, rewriting the script, and finding empowerment in the most unexpected places.

The Real-Deal Storyteller
Who I Am: Melissa Klock here, bringing you stories straight from the heart, no fluff, no nonsense. I’ve got a knack for turning life’s rollercoaster into words that hit home. Think of me as your guide through the thick and thin of life, minus the sugar coating.
What I Do: Sharing the raw, the real, and sometimes the ridiculous. From personal battles to those little ‘aha’ moments, I write it like I see it.
For example, I recently announced my 5- part series that will be released in January about my deeply personal path to medical marijuana in “My Path to Medical Marijuana: Navigating Health Challenges”….
….as well as
….processing grief and loss through the movie The Matrix and Keanu Reeves in “Real Talk: How The Matrix and Keanu Reeves Echo My World of Loss and Healing.”….
I peel back the layers without glossing over the hard parts.
I transformed those emotional journeys into candid stories that connect through their authenticity. That’s the type of straight-shooting, true-to-life writing you can expect from me.
2. The Professional with a Pen: Public Service State Employee

Who I Am: As a dedicated public service state employee by day, I navigate the complexities of health information management. I’m the go-to person for a team of Electronic Health Record Administrators, leading projects and operations with a blend of expertise and empathy.
What I Do: Balancing the demands of public service with my passion for writing, I find harmony between my professional responsibilities and my creative pursuits. It’s a mix of coffee-fueled days, strategic problem-solving, and the rewarding feeling of making a difference, followed by nights where I unwind with my pen, sharing insights and experiences from both sides of my life.
3. Comfort-Seeker: Robes, Swimsuits, and Nature Retreats

Who I Am: Winter’s for my cozy robe, summer’s for swimsuits and coverups, and whenever possible, it’s bare feet at our family camp, immersed in nature. I’m all about embracing life’s simple comforts.
What I Do: My writing reflects these moments of comfort and my connection with nature, capturing the essence of each season and the peace found in natural surroundings.

4. Cruise Traveler: Stories from the Sea
Who I Am: A cruise traveler with a love for the open sea, I find joy and inspiration aboard these floating adventures. Each cruise is not just a getaway; it’s a treasure trove of experiences and stories.

What I Do: From the deck of a cruise ship to exotic ports of call, my travel experiences enrich my writing. I bring back tales of ocean voyages, cultural encounters, and the unique serenity found at sea.
5. Life’s a Mixtape: Classic Gen X Style

Who I Am: A proud Gen X’er, I’ve lived a life as varied as a classic mixtape. From the energy of city life to the serenity of the countryside, I’ve experienced it all.
What I Do: Blending these diverse experiences into stories, I offer a mixtape of life lessons and adventures that resonate with a wide audience.
6. Laughing Through the Tears

Who I Am: Life has thrown its share of curveballs my way, but I’ve kept my sense of humor intact. It’s my way of staying strong — finding a reason to smile, even in tough times.Like when my 2 brothers and I were planning funeral flowers, and my younger brother cluelessly thought arrangements just show up especially the flowers. 🤷♀️
What I Do: I write with honesty and humor, tackling even the tough topics with a light touch and a hopeful heart. I recently lost both my parents within the last year- 2023 really sucked ass to be honest. During the planning, my brothers and I shared relieved laughter organizing the flowers, helping each other through grief with love. I translate those real moments of sorrow, joy and resilience into my writing.
7. Phoenix in Comfort

Who I Am: Resilience is my middle name, and comfort is my game. Rising from challenges is part of who I am, and I do it with my own style.
What I Do: Advocating for important issues like domestic violence, I share stories of hope, strength, and the power of rising again.
8. Empathetic Health Advocate

Who I Am: More than just promoting health awareness and education, I’m an active advocate. I’ve supported family, friends, and strangers through their healthcare journeys, especially in behavioral health.
What I do: My writing goes beyond informing; it empowers. I educate about alternative and conventional healthcare, aiming to demystify and make healthcare accessible. I protect health information and advocate for the best care, using my writing to illuminate and guide.
9. Adventurous Spirit

Who I Am: Always up for a new adventure, I’m planning to delve into hiking and other experiences in 2024. I’m learning to set boundaries and not let others hold me back.
What I Do: I’m constantly seeking new horizons to fuel my creativity and broaden my perspective. My writing reflects this spirit of adventure and self-discovery.
10. Community Connector

Who I Am: A firm believer in the power of stories to connect people. I’m all about making genuine connections, whether through speaking or writing.
What I Do: In my writing, I strive to create a bond with my readers. It’s not just about sharing stories; it’s about building a community where everyone feels heard and connected.
Defying the Odds: From Teen Mom to Trailblazer
My Journey: I defied the statistics of being a teen mom — not once but twice by the age of 19. I did everything ‘backwards’ according to societal norms. But here’s the twist: I turned those challenges into stepping stones.
I fought against the control and manipulation of others who tried to dictate my path, including those who threw away my college applications. Yet, I emerged with an associate’s degree and two bachelor’s degrees, proving every naysayer wrong.
The Lesson: My journey teaches that it’s never too late to change your story. From a teen mom labeled as unlikely to succeed to a multi-degree holder and a respected professional, my life is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and self-belief
A Yearly Tradition: Reflecting and Growing Together
As I continue my journey on Medium, I’ve decided to establish a yearly tradition. Every year, at the end of December or the beginning of January, I plan to update my ‘About Me’ article.
This will be a time for reflection on the past year’s experiences, growth, and the new insights I’ve gained. It’s not just about updating my story; it’s about sharing the evolution of my journey with all of you.
This annual update will be a chance to look back at the milestones achieved, the challenges faced, and the lessons learned.
It’s also an opportunity for me to reconnect with you, my readers, and to welcome new followers into my world. So, as each year comes to a close, join me in this reflective journey and see how far we’ve come together.
Thats a wrap for 2023 about me section — Melissa Klock. Part storyteller, part public service state employee, part cruise traveler, and a full-time embracer of life’s ups and downs.
Whether sharing a story, a lesson, or a piece of my world, it’s all about keeping it real and connecting with you, one word at a time.
My journey from teen mom to trailblazer is a crucial part of who I am, but it’s only a slice of my world.
There’s so much more to my story, layers and chapters yet to be shared and I look forward to unveiling these pieces with you, one story at a time.
