About Me — Erica Marie

Hello! *Virtual handshake, wave or maybe even a hug* 👋

We might have more in common than you think. If you’re a writer, then we have our love of writing in common. If you’re on this platform browsing for good content to read, we’ve got our thirst for knowledge in common.

I share my story not only to put a face behind the stories but to ultimately bridge the gap between you, the reader, and me, the writer.

Some Basic Information

  • I grew up in a tiny island called Bahrain then moved to Canada, where I currently reside, during my late teens.
  • I graduated with a Marketing Degree which I believe social media has now made obsolete.
  • I am happily married with two little boys.

Let’s Get a Little More Personal

I lived in my head a lot. As a child, my mom took me everywhere with her. Being surrounded by adults and not a lot of children I started to observe their dialogue, listen to their stories and watch their lives unfold. All while remaining silent in the background. Because what life advice did an eight year old have to offer thirty years olds?

I’m often told that I’m too serious. This is probably true. I like things planned and organized. As an observer and the youngest in the family, I watched my siblings’ lives unfold and learned from their mistakes. I guess you could say I was scarred and learned early on what kind of life I wanted for myself. So I took life pretty seriously, strategizing every life decision I made.

My mom is my everything. She is the reason I am who I am today and also the main culprit of my childhood traumas. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t know what love is if it wasn’t for her. She’s one of the strongest person I know.

Why Do I Write?

I take comfort in the silence of a blank page. There is no judgement when I write. I feel most myself in the safety of my words.

Reading is how I make sense of the world and writing is how I make sense of my place in it.

When I feel unbalanced, like something is missing in my life, I know writing will make it better. When I feel overwhelmed with my two screaming and demanding boys, I know writing will make it better. When I feel angry over things I can’t control, I know writing will make it better.

What Sparks Joy in My Life?

  • Quality time: I love the feeling of being truly connected and engaged with someone. That’s my love language. (If you haven’t read the book, I urge you to – The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman)
  • Quotes: I’m a big sucker for a good quote. They find you at the right moments of your life. They’re like a little nudge or whisper to guide you through your journey.
  • Journaling: It’s an underrated form of self-care. It should be on top of the list right next to meditation and yoga. Our mind holds so much thoughts and journaling is a great way to release it on to paper.
  • Interviews: I love learning about people’s lives through interviews. I have so much respect for interviewers who can get others to be vulnerable enough to share their story while still maintaining personal boundaries.

What Type of Content Can You Expect From Me?

My quest for personal growth is fuelled by my little boys. I quickly realized that I cannot be the best mother to them without being the best version of myself. So I write a lot about personal development. Here is an example of that:

I write about what it’s like to be a mom. I’m currently home full time with the kids so they inspire a lot of my content. Here is a very personal story I shared about my relationship with my son:

Finally, I write about what my journey on Medium is like. I find it helpful to read how others are doing in this platform so I figured I’d share my experiences as well. Here is an article on the benefits of replying to other writers’ stories:
