A Woman without A Voice

Captured masks reflect the truth in our eyes.

Photograph by Christopher Madsen

Your pictures hang upon a wall of smiling faces.

Encased behind glass these images capture your shadows perfection.

Photos of you smiling,

happy,

and content.

Except in your eyes.

A superficial smile gazes out beyond a child’s embrace.

I can see your green eyes longing for some safe place.

Trapped sadness peaks back at me from the past.

A mimic of service to torment his every appeasement you sacrificed love.

You had given too much.

Your eyes show you were broken.
