A Study Revealed The Devastating Effects Of Drinking Regularly

Read this before you keep poisoning yourself with alcohol

Alcohol makes people have more fun in social situations every day.

But at what price?

According to data released by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, about 95,000 people die each year in the United States due to excessive alcohol consumption.

But it can be even worse.

In Germany, a country where beer is part of the culture and people don’t start drinking at 21, but often as early as 14, the number is 74,000.

Astonishing when you consider that the US has 4 times more residents.

Worldwide, there are said to be as many as 5.3 million deaths attributable to alcohol each year.

What Exactly Does Alcohol Do To Our Bodies?

Alcohol damages many of our organs. Here are the most important risk factors:

Heart

Even in small doses, alcohol raises blood pressure and increases the risk of heart disease and heart attacks.

Liver

The liver is enormously important for us because, among other things, it filters toxic substances out of our bloodstream. Every time we drink alcohol, some liver cells die. Although it can recover, long-term alcohol consumption causes permanent damage, such as a fatty liver.

Fertility

Alcohol can affect fertility, especially in men. Heavy alcohol consumption leads to reduced sperm quantity and quality.

Stomach

Alcohol is also very harmful for the stomach. It hammers the stomach acid production which decreases the ability of the stomach to destroy dangerous bacteria.

A Study Revealed The Effects Of Alcohol On The Brain

The central control unit of our body is also severely affected by alcohol.

A recent study analyzed the effect of alcohol on the brain using data from 36,678 generally healthy middle-aged and older adults from the UK Biobank.

The results should be frightening for heavy drinkers:

Consistent with prior literature, we find negative associations between alcohol intake and brain macrostructure and microstructure. Specifically, alcohol intake is negatively associated with global brain volume measures, regional gray matter volumes, and white matter microstructure. Here, we show that the negative associations between alcohol intake and brain macrostructure and microstructure are already apparent in individuals consuming an average of only one to two daily alcohol units, and become stronger as alcohol intake increases.

How Much Alcohol Is Safe?

Of course, alcohol has certain social benefits.

I’m sure most of us have had great evenings that would hardly have been as much fun without alcohol.

However, you should always keep the health consequences in mind, weigh them up, and not let yourself be pressured into drinking out of peer pressure.

One drink a day is considered safe for women and for men two drinks a day. For example, an ordinary beer counts as one drink.
