A Strange Looking Forager
December Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Snow & White”
Searching For Food In The Snow.
Winter is a harsh time for birds. The cold weather forces many birds to forgo the safety of their natural habitat of woodlands and open fields and forage in urban gardens in deep mid-winter.
I’ve never seen a pied Blackbird like this one with such vivid markings, who visited my garden to feed. I have seen Blackbirds with black and white tail feathers, and some with smatterings of white in their wing feathers and head, but never one with so much white in its make-up!
I found that Blackbirds are partial to chopped up apple, sultanas and meal worms, which I sprinkle about the garden. They also like my wife’s home-baked cakes, scones and mince pies. Please don’t mention this to her as I could be in a bit of bother!
