Opinions

  • The story challenges the common portrayal of a tiger as a fearsome predator by depicting it as a nurturing and protective figure.
  • The narrative suggests that fear of the unknown can lead to misunderstanding and cruelty, as evidenced by the villagers' reactions to the tiger.
  • The princess's act of whispering stories to the tiger at night highlights the power of hope and connection, even in the face of suffering and captivity.
  • The author may be critiquing societal reactions to those who are different or misunderstood, emphasizing empathy and understanding over fear and prejudice.

A Story of the Lost Princess and a Beloved Tiger

An Unfinished Tale

A princess grew up with love, with care, with no boundaries. And she loved to play, In the garden, beside the lake, near a forest. Hide-and-seek, that’s what she loved most. And one day, She lost track in the forest while playing the game.

Losing her way, the princess sat down in tears, A roaring tiger stood by, hearing the whimpering sound of her cry, Her tears fell like waterfalls from the top mountain, The tiger became sad and said, ‘Don’t worry, girl, don’t cry, I won’t eat you. I won’t leave you either. Don’t just be scared of me, I’ll give you shelter and stand, If you just put your hands on my head and smile.’

The princess has never seen a tiger. So she put her hand on the tiger’s head. The tiger took her on his back, Gave her a place on his cave, Bound the elephant of the wood to bring her fruits. Bound the monkeys to sew her clothes. And the princess used to tell him stories every night.

One day- The tiger said, ‘I know the nearby locality, will you go with me?’ The princess was ready to go, was thrilled to explore.

So, they walked together and reached the nearby place, The tiger showed the locality. And said, ‘Do you know the place?’ The princess couldn’t recognize, so told him — let’s go!

About to turn back, Sudden fear arose, as they saw people- circling the tiger and princess on his back. No one knew the princess, But everybody knew the tiger, the roaring creature from the forest.

The tiger was thrown to the cage, The princess was caged as a slave. Every day, People teased the tiger — by throwing stones, by pocking with sticks. The tiger roared and cried, but no one cared, Only the princess.

She could hear the roar, the cry of her loving friend, But she was a slave with knotted bindings, couldn’t help. But every night, when everybody slept, The princess used to whisper the stories, to the tiger from far away, The tiger could listen to the whispering tales, he heard for million times, And they lived for another day.

…unfinished.
