A Right of Passage Takes a Hard Left
Drabble daily word 81
The random word of the day is ‘Directed.”

Stephie, the youngest of four, had been waiting for this day her entire life. She knew that when she was five she could go to kindergarten.
The morning of July 10th, her birthday, Stephie got herself dressed.
Stephie swung open her parents’ bedroom and proclaimed “Mom, I’m ready to go!”
Quite startled, and with all the other children still asleep, enjoying summer vacation and not going to school, Mom whispered…“Where, sweet girl?”
“Kindergarten! I’m five now.”
Thinking fast, like a magician using misdirection, Mom sat up and said, “Whose birthday is today?”
“Mine, mommy!”
“Who wants strawberry cupcakes for breakfast?”
Based on actual facts. Me…I was Stephie and very disappointed that I didn’t get to go to kindergarten the day I turned 5!
