A Record Player of the Future
A Six Word Photo Story: Freestyle
Impressive sound quality, sustainable, retro-inspired design
“Originally, a phonograph from the Victor Talking Machine Company, Camden, NJ, but it eventually became more of a generic term for any brand of phonograph. The turntables of phonographs of that era were usually powered by wind-upsprings. Also, there was no electronic amplification. The grooves of the record caused the phonograph needle to vibrate and it, in turn, caused a metal diaphragm to which it was attached, to vibrate also. The sound from the vibrating metal disk was acoustically coupled to a large megaphone-like horn mounted in the phonograph cabinet.”
I happened upon a Victrola while dining at a charming Turkish restaurant. Since my previous blog post about a record player garnered such a positive response, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to share this experience as well.
