If you’re like me, you enjoy reading stories by visual artists about how they create their work, what kinds of projects they’re working on, and how they came to be artists in the first place.

So I wanted to take a moment to recommend that you visit a Medium publication edited by Jillian Amatt - Artistic Voyages called Share Your Creativity.

It has a very similar spirit to The DIY Diaries in that both Jill and I hope to encourage artists — from beginner to professional, and occasional hobbyist to regularly practicing — to share about their work.

As Jill says in her submission guidelines, “I want to inspire you to be creative, and I want people to share how they are creative in their lives.”

Jill works as a visual artist who paints murals all over the world, while I work as a (mostly online) writing teacher who writes poetry in my notebook at home. The difference between our publications is that Share Your Creativity focuses specifically on visual creativity. For example, recent stories I enjoyed there are about creating vegan paper that looks like leather, and pressing flowers to create unique artwork.

I love that we’re building community on Medium around creative work, be it focused on visual art or poetry writing or self-publishing or gardening or cooking or home repair or ANY kind of project where you are doing something yourself that gives you that productive, positive feeling that comes with creative expression.

As Jill says, “You are creative… Every single thing we do is created by us!”

Thanks again for reading The DIY Diaries, and I hope you drop by Share Your Creativity to say hello to Jillian Amatt - Artistic Voyages and the other artists who have shared their work there so far.
