A Quote that Changed my life
Do you have a Quote you fall back on when times are hard?

As the world continuously acts to surprise us with the unknown, we are constantly put under pressure. It is easy to sue-come to the daemons howling at your door. When the times are low and I need to refocus on what lays ahead, I read the powerful words of others to empower me.
There are many such rhetorics available for us to draw from. Inspirational figures like Socrates to Loa Tzu to any number of U.S. presidents; Theodore Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln or writers like Mark Twain or Oscar Wilde. And I’m sure that they all had been inspired by the rhetoric of others.
Yet the Quote that gives me the most, came from a T.V. series (Parks and recreation). A character named Ron Swanson (played by Nick Offerman), a no none sense kind of guy, he sees the world in black and white, right and wrong.
Though not all the points he makes I whole heartily agree with, the large majority I do.
I’m unsure of the episode in which he speaks the following quote, but it is the quote that upon hearing, had change my whole outlook on life. I’m paraphrasing;
“You come into this world with nothing, but you leave this world leaving one thing. Your name.”
I found these words to strike the very heart of me.
It is such a magical gift we have from the written and spoken language. How a few words can change your whole outlook of life and act to inspire and empower us in times of low.
His quote showed me that life is not just the act of surviving that which is thrown at you, but how you live through it. So often we see our life as an act of working to obtain a pay-check so, we can buy things that do not really matter.
We get sucked into the politics, into social events, into the expectations of others. We forget the impacts that we leave behind throughout the journey of life, in our endless pursuit for accolades.
It is never too late to stop and think about the impact we had, whether they be positive or negative. The life we lead now is the life that we leave behind. The quote reminds me to keep to the values and the virtues that I hold dear.
There are many temptations that life throws at your feet. The easy routes that service others gain and blacken your morals. Time and time again we see other cheat and feel no retribution, tempting us to follow their lead.
Though we may get that which we think, as important at the time, from the shortcuts we take. We risk the one thing that we leave behind and have no power to change. The only true immortality we have, are the memories and the name we leave behind.
Be the person that you would like others to remember you by, but more importantly be the person that you would like to be remembered as. Use the words of others to keep you on the path that you want to be on.
Act to inspire others as others have inspired you.
Thank you, for reading my article. I hope that you find it useful for you.
