Summary

Anne Bonfert reflects on the joy and positivity brought by a happy graffiti message found during a bicycle tour, emphasizing the importance of sharing happiness in a world often filled with negativity.

Abstract

Anne Bonfert shares her experience with the April Six Word Photo Story Challenge, themed "Graffiti & Street Art." Living in a natural setting without urban walls, she found little opportunity to contribute to the challenge. However, a recent trip to Berlin allowed her to capture some graffiti, though it didn't resonate with her as art. The turning point came when she encountered an uplifting graffiti message during a bicycle tour with her husband, which she felt was a significant contribution to spreading joy and happiness, contrasting the prevalent pain and negativity in the news. She encourages sharing smiles with strangers and being the reason for someone's happy moment. Bonfert also invites readers to join her email list for more photo essays and to consider a Medium membership for unlimited access to her stories and others.

WRITING PROMPT RESPONSE

A Positive Message Being Shared

April Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Graffiti & Street Art”

Share a smile with a stranger.

I truly enjoyed seeing all those stunning murals from all around the world through this photography challenge. I wasn’t able to contribute much to the prompt since I didn’t find street art or graffiti in my neighborhood. But I’m not surprised, I live in nature. There are no walls to be painted on.

On my recent trip to Berlin, I managed to capture some graffiti in the city. But it was something I did not connect with art.

Today, I went on a bicycle/ inline skating tour with my husband and pulled off an emergency break in a small town when we drove past this wall. I knew this was as close as I would get to finding street art out here.

And you know what? It’s a happy message on the wall.

It made me smile.

And possibly a lot of others too.

I love the message. Let’s share more joy and happiness in the world. Pain and negativity are being spread in the news. Every day. It’s on us to share a smile with a stranger.

Make someone’s day.

Be the reason for someone’s happy moment.
