A Poeteer Enters A Battle, And This Is What Happened

A Poetic Contribution To A Battle Most Imaginary

Photo by Robert Zunikoff on Unsplash

I’m just a poeteer and everywhere I steer people read the lines I’m writing.

[sound of record spinned backwards, you know it: psullewellebeleleulele]

No, no, no, no, no.

I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I cannot do that.

I will not do that. How could I do that? Rip off the lines of one of your great songs?

I won’t. It’s silly. Still, your songs could be our Battle Beats. Who better to be on the soundtrack of THAT movie, then the most popular and most funny and most talented and most top-of-the-top

Daves on our planet, at least back then yesterday when I was (not) twenty (yet).

(And no, I am not kidding, at least not 100%, on the Mount Olympus of Daves, this Dave is at or near the top).

So, marching to the beat of that tune serenading the European Poets (I wish they all could be …) I’m leading my army into this claim for the top.

Not sure who we are going into battle with or for. I just know The Rude Poet called on us, or challenged us).

And on we march. “I wish they all could be”

In the pacifistic ranks of the Poeteers First Batallion we only have top rank poets and as I march, and I look around me I. Can. See. Them.

And though they are tagged below, you, too are welcome to join our ranks.

Don’t worry. We don’t really fight. Our words will tell the story, our voices fill the camps with song that makes them forget just for a short lived moment, the horrors of a war.

We are Poeteers, we are peace.

Our first line, please consider yourself tagged, consists of Raffaella Ferretti, Nusa Puksic, Harley King, Paul LoSchiavo and Melissa Kerman.

The rules are simple: if you are tagged, you can ignore. If you are not tagged you can play.

The game is this: pick one of the three prompts and respond. However you like.

  • It contains the phrase: “He gives me some knowledge, I buy him some shoes.”
  • Tragedy of the commons.
  • Picture prompt:

This all started with a post from Charles Roast in the Illumination publication:

(I’m not a writer there, yet, so I’ll publish outside. Will move it over as soon as I’m accepted into the Illumination team. Can we work on that, Dr Mehmet Yildiz?)

PS: if you like the song references in this piece, here’s the playlist that comes with this poem
