Summary

"A Persistent Stubborn Illusion" is a free-verse poem reflecting on the paradoxical nature of time, its impact on human emotions, and the eternal quest for meaning within its confines.

Abstract

The poem "A Persistent Stubborn Illusion" delves into the enigmatic and treacherous nature of time, portraying it as both a relentless force and an elusive concept. It captures the essence of time's contradictory perception—long yet fleeting—and its effect on the human heart, which beats in sync with life's rhythmic moments. The poem speaks to the futility of seeking definitive answers in a world where past experiences are frozen, and desires are often left unfulfilled. It describes a yearning to reverse time, to reclaim lost dreams, and to understand the boundaries of existence. The narrative stretches from the breaking point of beginnings to the infinite potential of desires, painting vivid imagery of comet snows and iridium rainbows. It suggests that within the fragility of infinity, there lies an indestructible brilliance, a collection of moments that, though seemingly fleeting, endure eternally. The poem concludes with an acknowledgment of the transient nature of life, yet it finds solace in the resilience of memories, preserved like messages in bottles, adrift on the seas of time.

The treachery of time

The nights are long, yet fleeting as this heart pounds within the stillness marking moments satellites of syncopated beats

Tumbling, reverberating aching for answers that will never come though the dots and dashes were previously received frozen in paralysis of needs

Hands swim backwards across an open face reaching, beseeching recoiling from the absence of a dream wondering when can they stop?

Stretching beginnings to their breaking point whilst contracting eternity to a photon flight across this metre aligned, designed for our measure

Living limitless on the edge falling, flying filling the landscapes of desire with comet snows and iridium rainbows shattering the canvases of dawn looping unravelled fringes back together

Fragile infinity glows her brilliance from within indestructible confines of bottled moments scrawled upon parchments flung, floating . on the seas of time
