A New Pact
Free-verse poetry — On righting the wrongs done to self

I’ve neglected you for decades and look at the mess you’ve become I can’t even face you in the mirror
So how do I right this wrong? Which road of redemption should I take? How deep must I go to resolve this?
How can I be so loving toward others and shove you into a darkened cave? You really do deserve better than this
I only want us to be whole again Not this fractured version of ourself I don’t want you to slip away
We need a plan — a new journey together not one filled with my selfishness You must be tantamount to my choices
Let’s do this together — make a pact I will end my selfish behavior and abuse and you will remind me how beautiful I am
