A Morning Walk in the Woods

Communing with Nature’s Wisdom

Autumn leaves with dry tinder crack beneath my feet. The sweet morning air revives a waking soul. I begin my walk to behold a once dark sky baring streaks of gold. The path I travel wanders thinly around the sleeping maple trees. To pass a spring creek choked by fallen leaves. In the distance, a sparrow sings to the night, goodbye.

This morning I left my lover sleeping without saying, goodbye. I quietly dressed in long pants with thick woolen socks over cold feet. Then as I left for my walk maples started dropping orange leaves. Outside the wind dared stillness to breathe a restless soul. Once hidden hills I can see rolling through the barren branches of trees. Light streams into day reflecting off fields of grass as mounds of gold.

At the moment my hectic thoughts drift away from turning time to gold. I start to wonder how I will live before saying my final goodbye. The forest offers respite from these troubles I give to the trees. There is an understanding as sound pops below my walking feet. I take another breath filling my lungs to reinvigorate the soul. In this solace of mind unknown worry depart as sailing red leaves.

I abandon future dread and take to watching falling leaves. Here is nothing but a moment worth more than a pile of gold. I walk a crisp morning to contemplate a once troubled soul. In all her beauty I witness nature change to goodbye. Even as a child when I could stand upon my feet. I loved exploring wild trails and climb upon enchanted trees.

I am now older with responsibilities that keep me from climbing up trees. Forgotten is the joy of falling in mountains of autumn leaves. I could walk for hours dreaming to feel no pain on youthful feet. Inside the forest, I’d search for fairies and hidden treasures of gold. But time has brought me to embrace an innocent goodbye. With memories of times, I held now cloud an older soul.

Nature comforts me to open a forgotten love with her soul. The trail moves me past a creek bed to a grove of white birch trees. Guardians dressed in sparkled bark to wish me goodbye. A calmness spreads outward from my heart as past regret leaves. In life to desire what is found in love over hunting for gold. The peaceful feeling overwhelms me to sit and rest my feet.

I watch as dawn moves across the yellow hills to rain upon the trees. I consult my soul and rise against in a gesture of goodbye. Doubts of “what if” leaves my thoughts while I travel back on humble feet.
