HUMOR

A Lot Of You Have Imposter Syndrome But I Have Expert Syndrome

I’m an expert at everything I do and it’s not a burden

Photo by David Hurley on Unsplash

I see a lot of people writing about imposter syndrome. It’s a serious problem and I love reading all the supportive comments that people share after.

The problem is I can’t relate to any of it, like, at all.

I never feel like an imposter or fraud. I have zero self-doubt and it’s not killing me.

It’s not a burden.

So why am I writing about it? I just wanted to see if anyone else in the 1% felt the same way.

I have the opposite condition to imposter syndrome.

It’s something much, much…. better.

I Have Expert Syndrome

I think I am an expert at everything even if I am a beginner.

Typically, it’s because I am just so good at everything I try.

It would be pointless to confess that I am a beginner because I just crush it every time (first time, second time, third time…and so on).

Even if I told everyone that I was a beginner, no one would believe me. They would think I am lying just to brag.

They would make snide remarks like, “I bet you practiced all night secretly when everyone else was sleeping!” or some BS like that.

My frustration is that I am so naturally talented, people always assume I put in more work than I do.

I never practice, I just do.

If you are like me and the rest of the 1% of performers, you’ll understand where I am coming from.

I believe these are some of the contributing factors to my expert syndrome:

Nobody Believed In Me

All my life, I’ve been told I was not special and I wasn’t good enough. Nobody ever had high hopes for me.

I was the underdog so I exceeded expectations every time just by showing up.

When expectations are so low, there is never any pressure to perform. So, every time I just knocked it out of the park.

I’m Not Competitive

I’ve always been told not to be so competitive and that life isn’t a competition.

So, I listened. I stopped holding back my abilities and giving other people any chances to win. I just play without restraints, and let my natural talents shine. That way, no one can compete with me anymore.

I’m Not Hard Working

People seem to think they need to put in 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert. In reality, you just need the mindset of an expert.

I just work “smarter” by thinking through problems for a couple of minutes.

It’s surprising how many people do the same thing over and over, even when they keep getting the same crappy results! Isn’t that crazy?

I Still Try To Fit In

Despite trying to fit in as much as I can, it doesn’t always work.

Sometimes I eat extra cake at lunch in a futile attempt to hide my six pack but my damn metabolism just decimates calories. Actually, it’s really an eight pack but I try to downplay my achievements by 25%.

Life isn’t fair so why rub it in?

My good friend Average Dave likes to call me Perfect Kevin just to tease me. I still haven’t figured out a good comeback yet. Average Dave keeps me humble even though I am better than him in every possible way.

I’m Entitled AF

Despite what people say, I believe success is guaranteed, not earned.

I believe I deserve wealth, health, happiness and great relationships.

Yeah, that makes me sound like an entitled prick but isn’t that what affirmations are for?

Pro tip: Get Siri/Google/Alexa to read affirmations in the third person.

For example, “Kevin Lee is an amazing person” read by Google is less conceited than saying “I am an amazing person” out loud.

Also, if Google says it, it must be true.

If I get tired of being affirmed, sometimes I just close my eyes and manifest for a minute.

Either way, things always come so easily to me and it’s rarely a challenge.

Finally, Some Real Hard-Hitting Advice

Hands down, the best advice that I ever received was “Be Yourself”.

So many people get caught up trying to be someone else when they should really be more like me. Enough said.

Are you too happy all of the time too? Want to know how to be sad?
