ALL ABOUT THE MOON ON AN ASTROLOGICAL LEVEL
A List Of Lunar Events, Other Moon Things From An Astrological Perspective
Our natural satellite brings in a slew of lunar events, from Blue Moons to eclipses; here’s what they mean spiritually and in Astrology.

Just when you think we are done talking about lunar events, there are more Moon things to discuss!
In Astrology, we look at the different lunar events, names, and other patterns of the Moon to understand how the lunations will affect our moods. Our natural satellite experiences variations at specific month periods. As a result, there are several events, including eclipses, new and full moons, and super and micro-Moons.
Spiritually, the Moon phase’s effects on humans are significant because it pronounces our emotions, intuition, how we react to others, and our comfort level. Given its numerous stages and changes, it makes sense that the Moon would rule the sign of Cancer.
Lunar phenomena are often described using words like Super, Blue, and even Micro Moon. Because naming it a Full or New Moon appears more straightforward, some individuals find titles like these misleading.
Even eclipses have exciting names, like blood moon.
But here’s an explanation of each term’s meaning from an Astronomical and Astrological perspective.
Super And Micro Moons
The Super and Micro Moons come in New and Full varieties.
Since the Moon’s orbit around the Earth is not a perfect circle, it can fluctuate. In other words, because the Moon traverses on an elliptical orbit, there are times when it is closer to or further away from our planet from a geocentric standpoint.
The Moon’s eccentric orbit gives us two extreme sizes called “Apogee” and “Perigee.”
Super and Micro Moons are striking in appearance. These lunar events usually mark essential turning points on an Astrological level.
A Super Moon happens when the Moon is at Perigee, its closest point to Earth.
Therefore, the Moon is bigger and more illuminated than usual. These lunar types have potent energy and can bring to light a variety of areas in life that need improvement, modification, or resolution. Also, Super Moons pull more strongly on our emotions and our coasts.
Micro Moons form when the Moon is in its furthest distant orbit from Earth. Apogee is the scientific term for the Moon’s greater separation from Earth.
The fact that this Moon is farther away does not in any way make it weaker. A Micro Moon is excellent for narrowing or concentrating its focused energy on one specific area of life. So, from a spiritual perspective, this could be a time in your life to clear out unnecessary things to work on pressing details.
Blue Moon
The Blue Moon’s name can seem odd because this lunation isn’t the color that it’s called.
A lunar event like this occurs when we get two Full Moons in a calendar month. Or it could be worded as having 4 Full Moons in a Season. Typically, we only get three in a season, so this is what makes it rare. Say it’s the summer; we would get a Full Moon in Capricorn, One in Aquarius, and another in Pisces.
Back in 2021, we had a summer series of 4 Full Moons. So, we got two Full Moons in Aquarius instead of one. The series prior to this was in 2020, around Halloween. We don’t get these yearly; it just so happens that this occurred with those sets.
Hence the term “Once in a Blue Moon,” it is unusual for us to have another Full Moon within four weeks. It is distinct from the regular Transits we see daily with the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and other planets.
Spiritually, a Blue Moon can be when you’re getting a second look at the previous Moon in the given Sign. Therefore, this could be finalizing what occurred from the Moon prior or gaining closure to something left unsaid at the previous lunation in that Sign.
For example, the two Full Moons we had in Aquarius in 2021 occurred at the end of July and mid-August. The July version of this rare Moon left things up in the air; by the time we got to August, you could move forward, tweak things that needed to be fixed, or let go of things that were no longer viable.
Black Moon
Did you say, Black Moon?!
Sure did!!
A Black Moon occurs during a particular type of New Moon.
The New Moons are technically in the dark, as we cannot see them.
New Moons are the darkest phase of the lunar cycle due to their Conjunction with the Sun. When the Sun and Moon are Conjunct, the Sun’s rays cast a shadow on the Moon, making it dark.
However, a Black Moon also happens when there are two New Moons in a single month, just like a Blue Moon. Blue moons only occur during Full Moons. However, we don’t refer to it as “Once in a Black Moon!”. Furthermore, I must emphasize that, despite its name, nothing about it is energetically dark.
Black Moons also have another rare phenomenon where we don’t get a New or Full Moon in the Month of February every 19 years.
Due to their rarity, Black Moons have greater strength.
Interestingly the last Black Moon was in January 2022 in the Sign of Aquarius. The final lunar event in this Sign was a Blue Moon in August 2021. Given this, it might have been vital for us to embrace a more spiritually Aquarian perspective in our lives in the long term.
Energetically and visibly, Black Moons are void of illumination. So, when these lunar events occur, we might restart something we couldn’t begin during this event. Sometimes this results in waiting until the New Moon in that Sign happens the following year.
Therefore, this could be about rethinking what intentions you’re trying to set; the other situation might not have been appropriate, so you need to give it time to become apparent. The second step of this lunation is about getting a reboot to do it right next time.
Eclipses, Solar, Lunar, and The Blood Moon
Because they modify the luminaries’ light and result in significant environmental changes, the New and Full Moon eclipses are more complicated than other forms of eclipses.
A Solar Eclipse is a particular New Moon and carries a masculine energy. Fresh starts can take many different forms, such as a new career, a change in goals, the start of entirely another route, or a change in your perspective on love.
Lunar eclipses help us comprehend complexities and are associated with feminine energies. This could be when you are letting go of outdated beliefs that have held you back or removing negative influences from your life.
Partial lunar eclipses occur when the Earth’s shadow only moderately covers the Moon because it is in a less dense region.
Penumbral Eclipses happen when the Moon is in the faint part of the Earth’s Shadow.
Annular Eclipses are when the Sun is obscured by the Moon in the center leading to a halo effect. This is because the other heavenly body is smaller than the eclipsed one.
Total Eclipses happen when a Lunar or Solar eclipse receives 100% coverage. At the entire range, this could be a more potent event.
A Blood Moon is when we have a Total Lunar Eclipse. This Moon appears as a rusty red color, hence the name.
Being observant is a good idea because eclipses might lead to particular outcomes.
Additionally, it can make anything happen faster than you had anticipated; in other words, if you had expected something to happen over several months, an eclipse can shorten that period.
During eclipse season, you should be mindful of what you start and intend to finish.
Keep in mind that you shouldn’t manifest during an eclipse. It’s possible that performing rituals for manifesting during eclipses will have bad results because this kind of lunar occurrence is unpredictable.
Void of Course Moon
In Astrology, there are times when the Moon isn’t making any alignments to other planets until it Transits into another Sign.
This particular event happens more frequently than most because there are periods when the Moon isn’t making any more connections to other planets. These instances could leave us temporarily foggy, unresponsive, and unmotivated.
Because no alignments are being made, it’s best not to initiate anything during a VOC since the outcome won’t bring results. This could be a time of feeling clueless so try to be aware of your actions and spending because the lack of awareness leads to mishaps.
During these periods, it is good to take breaks if you have the luxury to do some much-needed self-care.
The Moon has so much going for it, which is why it’s one of the most fascinating celestial bodies in the solar system, the way it affects us in Transit and our Natal Charts.
Whenever you think you’ve learned one thing about our natural satellite, there are more deep dives and other layers to discover.
Use this information to shed more light on the lunar events around you.
