Summary

The website content is a reflective poem and accompanying text discussing humanity's damaging impact on Earth and the need for a more symbiotic relationship with the environment.

Abstract

The poem "A Lighter Footstep" by Lisa, an Australian poet living in Finland, uses vivid imagery to depict humanity's harmful actions towards the Earth, such as environmental destruction, resource depletion, and disregard for biodiversity. It emphasizes the urgency for an "awakening" to save the planet for all living beings. The author expresses a deep concern for the current state of the world, citing her burning homeland, mass species extinction, and unprecedented levels of pollution as evidence of human disregard for the environment. The poem is a response to a prompt about symbiotic relationships, suggesting that humans must take more responsible, considerate steps to ensure the balance and health of our planet. Lisa advocates for mindful consumer decisions and a collective effort to make a positive impact on Earth, highlighting the essential nature of every living thing.

A POMprompt Poem

we walk, heavy-footed, darkening the earth as we build, spread, devour.

we take, greedy-handed, pillaging the earth of its beauty, resources, biodiversity, magic.

we ignore, self-absorbed, damaging the earth for all living things small, large, microscopic.

we need an awakening, saving the earth for all living things precious, equal, essential.

~thanks for reading~

This poem is in response to the prompt below. The symbiotic relationship humans have with the earth is essential to our survival. So far we have not done a very good job of ensuring there is balance (in my opinion). My homeland is burning. There is mass species extinction. There is pollution on a scale never seen before. Every consumer decision we make can have a positive or negative impact on our planet. What we need is a lighter step. A considered step. We can make a difference.
