A Lighter Footstep
A POMprompt Poem
we walk, heavy-footed, darkening the earth as we build, spread, devour.
we take, greedy-handed, pillaging the earth of its beauty, resources, biodiversity, magic.
we ignore, self-absorbed, damaging the earth for all living things small, large, microscopic.
we need an awakening, saving the earth for all living things precious, equal, essential.

This poem is in response to the prompt below. The symbiotic relationship humans have with the earth is essential to our survival. So far we have not done a very good job of ensuring there is balance (in my opinion). My homeland is burning. There is mass species extinction. There is pollution on a scale never seen before. Every consumer decision we make can have a positive or negative impact on our planet. What we need is a lighter step. A considered step. We can make a difference.
