A Life in the Arts
Submitted for The Lark’s poetry competition — runner-up poem

I write to find the beauty in words There’s art in the flow of language I read books for the same reason You could call it a literary vocation
My wife blends acrylic colors Across the weaves of a taught canvas With her brush, she’s slowly teasing Caressing, harnessing her chosen image
On and on, this changing of colors Until her brush, at some point goes still She turns the canvas so the world can see The magic involved, transition to real
Our children are now grown Three boys, each one a musician They’ve found art in their music Each ones’ talents, coming to fruition
These creative genes, they’re always building Rolling along with a steady rhythm Each one of us finds our own type of art As if through some tailored prism
We are all still hard at work It comes from deep in our hearts One worthy goal out in front of us To live and enjoy, a Life in the Arts
Thanks for reading my work. Always remember to support the arts.
