A Joyful Snowy Surprise

The magic of the snow and speaking up for Mother Earth

Image by Gabriella 1/10/24 — my driveway

Snow come and stay, so we can play.

Growing up in Hungary I was used to heavy snow falling in the wintertime. we easily had a few meters of snow on the ground. I remember snowball fights, rolling around in the snow, and a lot of sledding.

Since I moved to the Pacific Northwest there isn’t as much snow that I can see unless I drive up to the mountains. Even in the mountains, the snow is less and less every year, sadly because of global warming and all the environmental factors.

I get nostalgic when I see snow and enjoy the moments I get to spend outside watching the snowfall and yes even driving and seeing the snow around me. I also do not mind driving in the snow if I have studded tires at hand.

It started in the evening before. Looking outside I saw beautiful white flakes trickling down gently from the sky. The snow was an unexpected, and joyful surprise. We do not get much show on the Oregon coast.

Do you like to play in the snow?

This snow was the first time this winter. Below is a little video of a few minutes of my drive.

The trees dress up in the snow like a beautiful fashion statement. Like they say: look at me I am so pretty. Look at me until you can, my new dress will melt away quicker than you can snap a quick picture of my new snowy fan. In the morning darkness here I come snapping quick images before they are gone.

Getting home last night I was happy to see that a little snow still stayed on the side of the roads and in higher elevations. We need the snow the same way we need the rain. Less snow and rain is devastating to our environment.

Do you have any fun snowy experiences?

I hope that over time people will learn that more trees are needed for more rain and snow and the fewer trees we have and the more industry we have nature gets harmed in ways that might be not reparable. If we continue the way we are in our current trajectory. Humanity will cease to exist. We can however do our part for Mother Earth.

Go and play in the snow, and in the rain, visit our forests, and enjoy Mother Earth when you can. Please help her when you can. Plant plants and trees, recycle. Buy only things you need. Re-use when you can.

Thank you for reading, watching,

Gabriella
