A Hint of Autumn

DEP Fall Contest

Grey sky. Cold nose. Icy legs. Short evenings. Late mornings. Disappearing sun.

Goddess Earth Hints first. Still the playful girl.

Her children follow. Softly. Surely.

Autumn arrives. Winter follows. Summer goes.

No announcements, Calendars, Clocks.

We feel them in our bones.

Autumn is of course just another word for fall.

This poem came to me a couple of mornings ago, as I felt summer turn to fall. But the picture was shot two years ago in 2021. That was also the fall of lockdowns and the pandemic. It was quieter then, but autumn had lost none of its glory.

I also invite you to read the work of these inspiring Dancing Elephants Press poets.
