A Guide To Astral Projection

Can you actually leave your body?

Photo by Bruce Christianson on Unsplash

I’m sure by now we’ve all seen the hit movie Insidious where the main character fell into a coma and was roaming his mind the entire time. The concept of people being able to leave their bodies during a dream state has been around for centuries, so it is not a new phenomenon. This experience is referred to as astral projection. When you astral project you have the ability to leave your physical body and live in your dreams. Being in the middle of a pandemic can make people miss traveling and want to escape reality, so why not do it?

Is Astral Projection Real?

While there has been no scientific evidence to back up the existence of astral projection, many people have experienced it and from a spiritual standpoint, I can confirm it is a very real thing that I have experienced many times. Think about meditation, you’re somewhat leaving your body to escape into your mind and live in the reality you desire. You can physically be in your bedroom but mentally, you can be in a completely different world! When you enter a deep meditative state you can feel yourself detach from your body, so why wouldn’t you be able to do it while you’re sleeping?

Dreams are simply just creations of our subconscious mind which takes up a much larger portion of our brains than our conscious mind does. When you sleep, you’re in a relaxed state and you’re able to slip into your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is home to your higher self who is more spiritually in tune and understands the universe as well as the fact that there is more to life than what meets the eye. There is an infinite number of realities and dimensions out there so who’s to say we can’t visit them from time to time?

How Do You Astral Project?

One way I’ve found works best for me is to turn on soft meditation music in the background and get in a comfortable position. Bring awareness to every single part of your body and set the intention that you will leave your body and go to wherever you want to go. While you feel yourself drifting off to sleep repeat in your head over and over, “I am now going to…” Fill in the blank with the destination you have in mind. Your subconscious mind will hear you loud and clear and will help you achieve the astral projection. You should be so relaxed that you’re limbs feel heavy and the more you slip into your dream state, you’ll feel something shift inside of you. It’ll feel like you’re moving really fast even though you’re obviously not. This is you detaching from your body.

Sooner or later you’ll end up in your mind where you have complete control over what happens. You have to use your thoughts to move around and do whatever it is you want to do. You might be asking, “How can I use my thoughts if I’m asleep?” When you astral project, think of it as a mini you inside of your head. You have the same control as you do when you’re awake so you can move your body, walk, talk, and think as much as you want. Have fun with it!

Where Do I Go?

Go anywhere your little heart desires. It’s completely up to you. Remember time is just an illusion. One thing I used astral projection for was healing my inner child. I traveled back to visit her and reassured her that everything will be fine and that she has to learn to heal and forgive. You can also visit your “future self” and see what’s up with them. You can talk to your higher self and get clear answers to things you have questions about. You can meet your spirit guides if they allow it. You can even go to Hogwarts if you want which is a really popular choice for most people.

How Do I Come Back

When you decide you want to return to your body, simply say out loud “I am returning to my physical body.” Visualize your higher self aligning your physical body and before you know it, you’ll be back. Waking up from astral projection can vary from person to person. Some people feel very exhausted while others feel very energized. If you’re new to astral projection, you might wake up not knowing if this is real life or not. One way to bring your consciousness back into reality is to move your body around. Wiggle your fingers and toes and say something out loud. After a couple of minutes, you’ll feel back to normal.

Dangers Of Astral Projection

Like any out-of-body experience, there are dangers such as finding it hard to return to your body. For beginners, it’s always recommended you have someone around you when you’re experimenting with leaving your body. Before you even attempt to astral project, you should meditate and get a feeling of what it's like to detach from your body so that you’re not thrown into the deep end once you start astral projecting. Although it’s never happened to me personally, you could run into low vibrational energies while you astral project which I assume would be a result of intrusive thoughts which we all have. All you have to do is imagine yourself in a glowing bubble that only positive energies can enter. This ensures you are safe and protected while you astral project.

Don’t feel bummed if you can’t do it the first couple of times because things like this take a lot of practice. After only living in your physical body for so long it can be hard to actually live in your mind. Keep practicing and you’ll be able to visit places you’ve always dreamt of going to!
