A Friend Of Medium? Why You Should Upgrade Your Membership
The new level of membership that all digital writers should consider

A friend of Medium?
This was an interesting way to frame a membership upgrade. But it worked, for me, at least.
This was a pretty easy decision because I am a big fan of Medium. It is where I write every day, either for publication on the platform or for transferring to others like LinkedIn, my coaching website, or other third-party platforms. I am also a self-proclaimed digital writing artist, where my online writing, graphics, and content act as my form of self-expression.
Medium is not only where I write, but it is where I contribute to the intellectual capital of humankind. It is where I flesh out my ideas to create products. It is where I practice in public, grow, evolve, and continue pushing the boundaries of who I am. If you consider my burn, then you’ll quickly realize that it was never a question of whether I was going to upgrade my membership, but when — My fire or “burn” is to learn and grow every day, inching close to my true potential while simultaneously pushing the boundary on what exactly that is.
My passion is to get better. My life’s task, or Massively Transformative Purpose (MTP), is to break generational curses and build generational wealth.
The bottom line is this: Medium is essential for my life as a digital writing artist in pursuit of my burn and fulfillment of my MTP. And if you ask yourself, “Am I a digital writer?” and, “Do I view myself as an artist?” You should also consider becoming a friend.
Benefits of Becoming A Friend of Medium
Part of what makes Medium great is that it has become the defacto platform for all digital writing artists. Anyone who has something to say, regardless of what they do or who they are, uses Medium to get their message out quickly and widely. There is no long, drawn-out process for publication (unless you are submitting to Better Humans, but that is another story).
If you are still unsure, consider these additional benefits from Medium:
- Get unlimited, ad-free access to every story Read any article in our entire library across all your devices — with no paywalls, story limits or ads. Learn more.
- Support the voices you want to hear more from When you read a members-only story, a portion of your membership fee goes directly to the author through the Partner Program. This way, Medium membership lets you support your favorite writers and helps them earn money. Learn more.
- Listen to stories Use Medium’s text-to-speech audio capabilities on website and mobile apps. Learn more.
- Read stories offline Download your lists of stories for offline reading on iOS and Android. Learn more.
- Join me.dm, Medium’s Mastodon instance Join fellow Medium writers and readers and share your own Medium stories or short-form thoughts to millions of potential readers on the Mastodon network. Learn more.

Additionally, here is a quote from the official story: “This week, we’re taking our mission a step further with a new membership level: Friend of Medium. It’s priced at $15/month or $150/year. As a Friend of Medium, more of your membership dollars will directly support the writers you love — plus the editors, curators, and teams who make Medium a vibrant, inclusive home for human stories. You’ll also get access to a new Friend Link feature that lets you share what you read with your friends.”
You’ll notice that the emphasis of becoming a friend of Medium is on the writers. In addition to being one, you’ll be supporting others just by having an upgraded membership.
This is the most important point: If you spend your time and effort writing online, then support the platform that allows you to continue working on your craft. In my opinion, and others like Nicolas Cole, blogging is dead. Creating a standalone blog, in the vastness of the World Wide Web, is not what it used to be. Unless you also have other social channels driving traffic to it, which you most likely don’t if you are a digital writer, then the best place to be is on social blogs like Medium and Quora.
Medium is the best option for a multitude of writing styles, publications, social connections, and, of course, human stories.
